I Got my GGgrandmothers Death Certificate today and I have more questions. First I want to say how important it is to know as much as you can about your subject. Nancy Ann Hyett b. 7 Feb. 1844 Fleming Co. KY Age 68 years 3 months 3 days. Widowed Died April 9, 1912 Buried April 11, 1912 at Emmons Cemetery, Ramey KY. The place of death: ROWAN COUNTY Voting Pct. # 2 Farmers She was married to James Elihu HIATT b. Dec.. 26, 1844 fleming Co. KY son of Josiah HIATT b. ca. 1823 m. 1844 Charlotte GREGORY in Fleming Co. KY The informant was her son Allen Hiatt/Hyatt and he stated her father was ELIGA ROYSE place of birth KY Mother Anna Kissick birth place KY. Now, If I had just started out I would be chasing a KISSICK for awhile until someone said...that is not correct. The fact of the matter is......See, I know she was the daughter of Elijah ROYSE and Sylvanna "Anna" TABOR. I know this because I found their marriage in the Fleming Co. Marriages. I know because of the 1850 Fleming County Census.....and I know that sometime after 1850 Elijah ROYSE died/or they were divorced and Anna married Robert Kissick who was divorced. Yes, Anna Kissick was her mother but she was born a TABOR not a KISSICK. Now, my question is: Where is the EMMONS Cemetery and where in the world is RAMEY, KY? This one is a new one to me. I need help!! Thanks! Vivian

I guess we all need to print huh? Ok........1.....2.......3 Print!! <A HREF="http://www.pastracks.com/states/kentucky/kentucky.htm">Kentucky Historical County Lines</A> http://www.pastracks.com/states/kentucky/kentucky.htm
Just had to share this with everyone. It just shows you that good things come to those that wait....patiently. For years I tried to get my GGGrandmothers death certificate sending moey twice to Frankfort......nothing in file. When the new search for Death Index was put online I did my own search and found her under Hyett.....I was elated and immediately sent for it. Got it today and its the wrong DC.....LOL Wrond name, DOB, DOD, County, Death Volume number, Certificate number....wrong everything...LOL Needless to say it will go back in the mail tomorrow for the right one [hopefully] This gal is super good very fast, and the price is right $3.00 so I am not the least bit worried about getting the right one...I must wait PATIENTLY tho!!!
Please go to the Bath Co. KY Genforum and read the story Williamson Griffin Secret? <A HREF="http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/plake/plake.html">Documenting the American South: The Southern Experience in 19-th Century Americ</A> http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/plake/plake.html It is so compelling and there are names included that might connect you to one of your ancestors as well. This Bath Countian moved with her husband to Missouri. It is so shocking. I checked the 1830-40 Bath County Census and Kate stated she was b. Bath County March 16, 1838 but the census doesn't bear that out. See what you think the SECRET was that the family was trying to keep from people in Bath County? or from everyone really? Thanks Joanne!!

We kept asking for and finally got a MARKWELL genforum. The closest thing to Markwell was Markel and others......soooooo all you Markwell researchers please use the genforum for your posts too. If we don't use it we will lose it. http://genforum.genealogy.com/markwell/ Thanks!
Hey! I am having lots of fun posting peoples spouses on the Death Notices online. That is a great way to see who was married to whom and when. There is lots of room to things. I wonder if we will find Hannah there? [this is for Bath Co. Researchers only cause its an inside joke] Have I got a post-em for her. <G>
Don't know if it was passed on to these lists or not but.....you can go to the new Death page now and can add a postem to the DC. so that anyone looking for the Death certificate can not only see the information for the death but can also see what you post about this person......ie: who they married........ children if you want....neat?? I did it on one and I may just use that medium for more information now. Just wanted to share as always......<G>

I have a Samuel LEEDY in my database married to Mary Adeline REPASS. The LEEDYS migrated out of Wythe County, VA as did so many of the early settlers to Morgan, Elliott, Rowan, Carter and surrounding counties. The LEEDYS married into the KEGLEY families and that is my original point of contact with them. This particular Samuel died in 1890 but it is quite conceiveable that the Samuel of the 1900 incident could have been a son or grandson. By the way, I would love to fill in the children of Samuel and Mary Adeline (REPASS) LEEDY if anyone on the list has that information. Better yet, if anyone on the list has KEGLEY information please contact me if we have not already touched base. CONN information is needed also. Have a great holiday weekend everyone! Soldier is in Carter County, very near the county line. Since it is closer to Morehead than to Olive Hook, people living in Soldier often got their marriage licenses, etc. registered in Rowan County. There are four Caroll/Carroll/Carrell marriages recorded in Rowan County between 1884 and 1908: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/rowan/marr-C1.html#Ca-table Since the clipping was sent as part of an article entitled "A Century Ago in Rowan County", it seems most likely that it occurred June 20, 1900, but I would appreciate it if someone in the Knott Historical Society could confirm that speculation. -- Teri
Hi. I'm Hurshel Debord. Here is a letter sent to me by a fellow researcher in NC. It was written from Morehead in 1893 and has lots of info of interest to historians and genealogists. Elizabeth Russell, P.O. Box 2101, Sanford NC 27331 sent me a letter in Aug 1999 that contained Zerox copies of a Bible record for the Boaz and Ezra DeBorde's family. Presumably the Bible belonged to Mary Boaz's parents. Elizabeth Russell also sent me a copy a letter that was found in that family Bible. NOTE by HLD: The writer of the letter, W. C. Debord, was almost certainly William Columbus Debord (1877-1921) s/o Wm and gs of Gedion who never married and died in Rowan Co in 1921. He is buried in the Franklin Caudill Cem on Dry Creek Road in Rowan. The recipent of the letter was his cousin T. C. DeBorde in Trap Hill NC who was almost certainly Thomas Charles DeBorde s/o Ezra and gs of Gedion Debord. The handwriting was very legible and the spelling was better than mine. I have tried to transcribe the letter exactly as it was written; except I had a little trouble transcribing some of the symbols. The letter was two small pages written front and back and every square inch was utilized, suggesting that paper was a valuable commodity in 1893. Following is H. L. Debord's transcription of that letter. Morehead, Ky June 25, 1893 Dear Cousin and Relatives in general: It is with great pleasure that I take up my pen this morning to write a few lines to you in answer to your kind letter which I recieved yesterday. I scarely dared to hope that you would condescend to answer my letter after my tardiness in answering your last missive. This leaves us in tolerable health and I must sincerely trust that these lines will reach you and find you all well. I have nothing of very absorbing interest to write to you. More than I would like to see you all the best ????. page 2 Last Wednesday (21) we were visited by the worst rainstorm known in this section for years. In less than an hour every little rivulet was transformed into a raging torrent which swept everything in its path. Much damage was done to fences and growing crops. At Francis Fraley's farm, on the Ridge about 4 miles from here; on Monday evening, two men named Frank Templeman and David Kendall were overcome by gas while working in a 38 foot well and both were taken out dead. They were burried in the same grave on Thursday. A man named Cox was terribly mangled by a saw mill while working at Wm Cooper's saw mill near here on Monday evening, and died four page 3 hours later. His remains were taken to his home near Bloomington KY. Well, cousin, I suppose, I must close the list of casualities, for fear of promoting nightmare in you. Markets here: Corn 65 (symbol for cents). Flour $2. @ 3.00 per cwt Bacon 10 @? 12 1/2 (symbol for cents) per pound ??. I was very glad to recieve a description of Trap Hill as Geography is my particular hobby. We live some six miles from Morehead. It is quite a business place containing 13 stores, 4 hotels, 4 physicians; 5 lawyers, a livery stable, a printing office. publishing the Morehead Times (weekly) a furniture factory. ?? More Tanbark and staves are shipped from Morehead than any other station on the railroad. There are more saw mills in this county than you can Page 4 shake a stick at. You wanted to know if I knew anything about the rebellious acts of the Roman Catholics. We take Louisville and Augusta papers, but have not read anything about the Catholics lately except a church riot at Ft Wayne Ind. It however is the opinion of eminent Divines? and others that the Church of Rome will sometime attempt the overthrow of the United States for ???. Should they attempt it, I am satisfied that our huge war on sea monsters with Uncle Sam's boys on land would effectually quall it. So I will close by asking you to write soon. Your Cousin W. C. Deborde to: T. C. De Borde.
