    1. Is it Possible???
    2. WERE YOUR ANCESTORS BEAMED DOWN BY ALIENS? NEW DNA EVIDENCE. Scientists at The National Academy for the Study of UFO's have recently confirmed the existence of the "UFO chromosome." While most genealogists are aware of the x chromosome, passed from one female generation to the next, and the y chromosome, from which it is possible to determine descent in an uninterrupted male lineage from a common ancestor, the "UFO chromosome" had previously been only speculation. Working with DNA recovered from the aliens of the Roswell, New Mexico crash, the scientists have discovered the "UFO chromosome" is also present in some humans. This discovery confirms that aliens have been breeding with humans for centuries, and beaming their progeny back to earth. For the "low" price of $10,000, they will test your DNA to see if you possess the "UFO chromosome." While the test will not tell WHICH ancestor had the "UFO chromosome," there are several ways to identify that ancestor. For those ancestors to conceal their identity: 1. They moved every few years, never spending long at one location. 2. They were the only person of that surname in the county. 3. The county clerk who was also an alien, assured that your ancestor's marriage bond would "accidentally" be lost, their deeds set aside and never recorded, and their entire probate file would turn up "missing" even though indexes say it once existed. 4. The census taker would either not list them, OR he would list them twice, with sleight differences, causing quarrels among descendants whether they are the same person or not. 5. The family Bible was sent "west" with the youngest unmarried daughter, where she married a "Mr. Smith." 6. The family cemetery was sold to outsiders, who used the headstones to make a sidewalk. 7. The church they joined did not believe in recording vital statistics. 8. They started rumors of how they were related to someone famous, causing descendants to search the wrong family. 9. They started rumors of how they were born in England, arrived in Virginia with two brothers (one of whom was born in France, the other in Sweden). To conceal their identity, one brother moved to Georgia, the other to Maine, while they remained in Virginia. 10. And, when all else failed and they were about to be discovered, the county court house would "accidentally" burn. If you can prove your ancestor was beamed down by aliens, Halbert's of Bath, Ohio has recently prepared a family history of the Alien family, complete with the Alien coat of arms, which you will be proud to display over your fireplace. <A HREF="http://home.talkcity.com/MainSt/juliacarol/">Julia Carol GREGORYLevesqueFather's Homepage</A> http://home.talkcity.com/MainSt/juliacarol/

    1. Re: Rowan County, KY Cemeteries

    3. I received my set of cemetery books today (13 pounds) and am so happy with them. The four Rowan County volumes are arranged in alphabetical order by cemetery name and are so easy to read and understand. At this time, only a limited number of sets are being printed based on the preporders plus a small number for the historical society to have on hand to sell at meetings and events. The set of books do have exactly the same data as the cemetery CD, except for the CD's all-name index.. The CDs will be available all the time but that may not be the case with the book set. I don't know if a second printing will take place later on if these copies sell out. Either one though is a great resource for researching burials in the county. Below is the ordering information for anyone interested in a book set: Cemetery Book Set: The Cemetery Book set consists of (5) volumes and over 1000 pages and includes photos of all but a few out county cemeteries. Four volumes cover the (300) Rowan County Cemeteries and the fifth covers the (75) or so cemeteries bordering Rowan County, including Carter, Elliott, Fleming and Morgan Counties. The books will be beautifully bound with semi soft covers and feature one or more of the Rowan County cemeteries in color, with a plastic overlay for protection. This project was 3 ½ years, over 12,000 hours, and involving over 100 volunteers in the making. There is nothing now or before that can even begin to compare with the beauty and completeness of these books. . Cost of the complete set of five books is $75.00 plus $15.00 for shipping ($90.00 total). All orders must be submitted at the same time in order to get the quoted price. Payment must be received in advance, made payable to “Dewie E. Black”, P.O. Box 1134, LaBelle, FL 33975. 1. Re: KYROWAN-D Digest V01 #13
    2. Hello all, The Cemetery CDs sound great! However, I only have ONE relative that I think may have died in Rowan county (haven't verified this yet) Would someone who has access to these CDs be willing to do a search for a GREENBERRY DENNIS. He would have died between 1880 and 1900, and probably would have been living in either Rodbourne or the Aarons Run Precinct. Thanks in advance for any help on finding where my great grandfather died. I found him in 1880 in Rowan County and other family members in 1900 in Rowan County, and his wife was listed as "Widowed" in the 1900 census. There was a Dennis family Cemetery in Morgan County, but since the family was dealing with a murder trial in Rowan County in 1891, I'm guessing the stress and expense of the protracted trial may have caused them to bury Greenberry Dennis where they were living at the time (Rowan County) Thanks to all who contribute to this wonderful list! 3. Great News! The first batch of preordered cemetery CD's were recently put in the mail, and many have already received their copy. Nice compliments are already coming in. If you want to order one, please read the details below. Additionally, the first of the book sets are just about ready to be mailed, and I'm really anxious to see those. Betty Sharp Cemetery CD: The Cemetery CD features all of the near 400 cemeteries, three hundred of which are in Rowan County, and about 75-80 cemeteries on the borders of Carter, Elliott, Fleming and Morgan counties, including color photos of all but a few cemeteries in the out county areas. The CD’s will contain all the individual cemetery files, plus all of the cemeteries combined into one large file which makes for very fast search of any individual in all of the cemeteries. A typical search through all 375 cemeteries can locate an individual in 2-3 seconds, vs possibly an hour or so searching through the books for a person. Additionally the CD’s will contain two Installable Viewers, to view, search and print any of the files on the CD. Instructions for installing and using the Viewers will be included. The CD's are Warranted to work in any computer using Windows 95, 98 or ME with a CD ROM drive. A CD found defective will be replaced free of charge upon returning the CD. Cost of the CD is $36.00 including shipping. Payment must be received in advance made payable to “Dewie E. Black”, P.O. Box 1134, LaBelle, FL 33975. Phone: 863-675-0205 or 863-675-6491, or Fax: 863-675-6491, E-Mail: dewie@olsusa.com

Would this be the right generation for your Robert Hanes? http://www.best.com/~tpettit/family/pettit/FG03/FG03_454.htm Unfortunately, that's all I have on him, just his name. No dates or other family members. I couldn't find any Hanes families in the 1880, 1900, 1910 or 1920 censuses of Rowan Co. They seem to be relatively recent arrivals to the area, and most of my data is from before 1910. -- Teri

    1. Morehead, KY Obituary
    2. Is there a library in or near Morehead, Kentucky which has indexed obituaries from which I might get a copy of a 1971 obituary? Kathy

One is the University library, the other is the County library. Coverage is spotty on the early years, but 1971 should be no problem. The microfilms per se are not indexed by name. If you know the date of death it should be no problem to scan the relevant week, though. The microfilms can be borrowed on interlibrary loan through the University of Kentucky. See instructions here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/sources/ukfilm.html Additionally, about 4 years ago the Genealogy Section of the Rowan County Historical Society started an obituary file, where obituaries are photocopied by volunteers, attached to a large index card, and filed in boxes. These boxes are stored in the Genealogy and Local History room at the county library in Morehead. There is no "index" to the boxes, but since they are in alphabetical order by name of the deceased, lookup is easy. I believe that coverage is complete from the date that the project started, but is spotty before then. The majority of the obits in it are not taken from the microfilms, but rather obtained by photocopying the personal obituary collections of Society members. So whether it contains a given obit from before 1996 or so tends to depend on whether some Society member was interested in clipping it when it first ran. Additionally, when somebody visiting the library copies an obit from the microfilm, they often make an extra copy for the obit file boxes. (I did when I was last there.) But, so far as I know, there has been no concerted effort to copy all the obits from the microfilms into the file boxes. I also don't know whether there is anyone in Morehead who will do lookups in the obituary file boxes on behalf of those who live elsewhere. (I live in California and it's been about 3 years since I last visited Kentucky, so I can't help. There are actually several obits I'd like to look up myself, one from 17 Feb 1971. It wouldn't happen to be the same person, would it? :-) -- Teri Pettit

    1. Cemetery Books & CD
    2. Betty Sharp
    3. Hi All, Great news! The Rowan County Historical Society is proud to announce that its cemetery project is in the final stage of completion. The book sets are ready to be printed, and the CD's are ready to be cut and shipped. Society member Dewie Black is in complete charge of the production of both and for the handling of all orders, a tremendous task for any individual. He along with the Cemetery Project Committee members are so excited about the first release of their cemetery surveys. Quoting Dewie, "I don't think anyone can imagine the enormity, the completeness, and the beauty the cemetery books will entail. The CD is just going to be out of sight in performance. Owning either the book set or the CD will be a real treasure." Complete ordering details are described below. Be sure to contact Dewie if you're interested in placing an order or have any questions. He does have a new e-mail address <dewie@olsusa.com> in case you have contacted him before at his old address. As soon as the word spread that the Rowan County cemeteries were almost finished being surveyed, a lot of orders were placed for both kinds of the documentation. Now's the time to get in on the preorders of the first printing of the book set and the CD. Sincerely, Betty Sharp Cemetery Book Set: The Cemetery Book set consists of (5) volumes and over 1000 pages and includes photos of all but a few out county cemeteries. Estimated shipment of the books is about 3-4 weeks. Phone: 863-675-0205 or 863-675-6491, or Fax: 863-675-6491, E-Mail: dewie@olsusa.com Cemetery CD: The Cemetery CD features all of the near 400 cemeteries, three hundred of which are in Rowan County, and about 75-80 cemeteries on the borders of Carter, Elliott, Fleming and Morgan counties, including color photos of all but a few cemeteries in the out county areas.
