    2. George Davis
    3. Does anyone know of a source for Rowan Co Ky obituaries. I'm looking for an obit for Jesse DAVIS who died 12 Nov 1857 and is most likely buried at Siloam Cemetery. He may have also been the only RW patriot to live and die in Rowan Co. George

Many thanks to the volunteers who maintain the obituary file boxes at the Rowan County Library in Morehead. Almost all the post-1980 obits were from those file boxes. Those of you who live near Morehead should not neglect this convenient resource. The earlier ones I mostly copied from the newspaper microfilms at the library. Happy searching! Oh, and if you have any obituaries or death certificates sitting around home, especially if you have any for folks born before 1910, please consider sharing them with others via the Message Board. -- Teri Pettit

(Saturday I went to a Hall reunion and Sunday to a McBrayer-Pettit reunion.) Mainly I concentrated on adding details (ages, birthplaces, parents, witnesses, etc.) from Books 3 through 7 (which were already online in names and dates only form.) Full details have been added for books 3 and 4 (1897-1903), and for about 1/3 the records in books 5, 6 and 7 (1904-1912). Also about 50 additional records were added for books 8 through 13 (1912-1921). When I got back home to California, I reformatted the web pages and added a listing by bride. So for all of you long-time researchers who've stopped visiting the Rowan County marriage pages because you already got all you could from them, you might want to take another look. I'll be submitting the obituaries I collected to the Rootsweb message board as time permits, and will announce the names here as I do so. >> Great job!!!! I have passed this new info to all the cousins so that they can enjoy these wonderful new additions. Nolabert@aol.com

Alderson was part of the Slaty Creek (I'm not sure if I'm spelling that right. My notes are buried in the mess of a desk right now) Church, and it's still an active church. I think it's in Mt. 2. Hello Dear Rowan County list, I'm still battering at my brick wall, and thought maybe some of you might be able to help me. My grandmother, Mary Alice Donelson/Donaldson, married my grandfather, Rubin Calvin Dennis in Rowan County in 1896. Witnesses were Jack Carter and Johnie Ellis The minister who performed the wedding was Rev. H. G. Alderson. I have a copy of the Rowan County Court Minister's Return marriage register, and Rev. Alderson shows up in four of the ten marriages on this page. Here's my question; Do any of you have any information about the Reverend Alderson? Do you know what church he would have been affiliated with? I have not been able to find birth information for my grandmother's first two children, and a cousin thinks maybe the only record of their births might be in their church. Any ideas on where to look in county records or the Kentucky Archives that might have information on churches that were active in that time period? Thanks for any help or suggestions. 3. Nola, Yes, I have quite a bit of information on Rev. ALDERSON as he was the brother of my husband's grandmother. Rev. Harvey G Alderson was b. Mar 13, 1851 in Logan, WV m. 1885 Died Feb 14, 1924 inFarmers, Rowan Co, KY age 72 . 13 ch from 2 marriages. He was first pastor of the Slaty Point Baptist Church, Rowan Co, KY. This information thanks to a descendant Raymond Alderson who did extensive research on the family. There is a John Ellis in the Alderson family. This may be one of the witnesses? Maybe this will help and I shall try to look up any other name for you in the index. Didn't find your Donaldson or Dennis.
