1-11-2008: From Richmond, Indiana "Pal-Item" Fountain City -- Mrs. Virginia L. Cope, 82, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008. She was born April 5, 1925, to Arthur and Pearl Renner Dailey in Mount Vernon, Ky. She was united in marriage to James F. Cope on July 8, 1943, a union which was blessed with four daughters and two sons. Mrs. Cope was a homemaker and a member of the Fountain City United Methodist Church, where she was formerly involved with the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and was known for her flowering gardens and home cooking. Mrs. Cope will be missed by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Aldan Newman of Fountain City, Sandy Reynolds-Turner and Dean Turner of Richmond, Kristi and Tom Cummings of Brownsburg and Kim and Rob Spurrier of Centerville; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Yvonne Cope of Fountain City; her daughter-in-law, Bobbi Cope-Brown of St. Croix; 16 grandchildren, David and Linda J. Newman, Jennifer and Paul Moore, Jeremy and Becky Reynolds, Susan Reynolds, Sara and Mark Strate, Morgan Cope-Little and Byron Little, Erich Cope, Maggie Cope, Barney Barnhart, Elizabeth and Jim Summers, Lucas and Stefanie Cope; Amanda and Matt Pinkston, Jessica and Ty Cole, Mary and Kevin Mitchell, Caitlyn Cummings and Samantha Spurrier; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty McGarey of New York, N.Y.; a brother, Jack Dailey and his wife Ellen of Somerset, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cope was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James F. Cope on June 25, 1980; a son, Billy Ray Cope on July 2, 1997; two sisters and one brother. A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 U.S. 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
