4-25-2009: From Richmond, Indiana "Pal-Item" RICHMOND, Ind. -- Lucy Fortner, age 98, of Richmond, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Arbor Trace. She was born April 10, 1911, in Rock Castle County, Ky., to Jack and Luticia May Mullins and had resided in Richmond since 1928. During World War II Lucy worked at Crosley doing work for the Air Force. She planted a large "Victory Garden" and canned what she grew. Later Lucy was the cook and owner of Lucy's Restaurant in Richmond for many years. She enjoyed quilting, yard sales, growing flowers and cooking for guests. Lucy was a member of the Pentecostal Church. After retiring, she traveled twice a year to Arizona to visit family. Her family will miss her; she was one of a kind. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Cannon and her husband Wendell of Arizona; sister, Jean Cogan of Centerville; special grandchildren, John Grace of Cincinnati, Ohio, Penny Hester of Richmond, Jeff Cravens and Stephanie Cannon, both of Arizona, Barry Cannon of Springfield, Ill.; stepgrandchildren, Doug, Kenny and Kimberly Clark, all of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Amanda Cannon, Kaila Cannon and Camilla Cravens of Arizona, Charles Grace of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rylee McDaniel and Samuel Hester of Richmond; great-great-granddaughter, Sheali Cannon of Arizona; nieces; nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; two sons, Clifford Fortner and Fred Fortner; one daughter, Anna Mae Geraghty; five brothers, John, Ernest, Homer, Elmer and Bill; three sisters, Evelyn Mullins, Hester Barker and Nellie DeFevers. Visitation for Lucy Fortner will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at Goshen Cemetery, Richmond, with Rev. Alan Keesling officiating.
