12-25-2008: From Richmond, Indiana "Pal-Item" CENTERVILLE, Ind. -- Walter V. Carter, age 94, of Centerville, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at his residence. He was born Jan. 14, 1914, in Rock Castle County, Ky., to William and Nancy York Carter and lived in this community most of his life. Walter retired in 1977 from Indiana Tool Co. as a tool and die maker and had worked for Knowles Tool, Square D in Oxford, Ohio, and McClelland Casket Co. He was a school bus driver for Centerville Schools and was a longtime farmer in the Abington area. Walter was a member of the Brownsville Methodist Church and served on the Abington Advisory Board from 1970 to 1974. Survivors include his grandchildren, Starla Morgan (Michael), Holly Taylor (Brian), Joe Snyder (Lora) and Dean Snyder (Tracy), all of Liberty; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua Morgan (Liz Greene), Jessica Brannam (Bill), Kara Snyder, Ashley Taylor, Heather Snyder, Shari Snyder, Haley Snyder, Thomas Snyder and Ryan Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary I. Burkhardt Carter, who died in 1997; daughter, Jeannine Snyder; four brothers, James, Harry, Charles and Oscar Carter; and four sisters, Flo Sutton, Lou Harris, Grace Butler and Dorothy Mullikin. Visitation for Walter V. Carter will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Doan & Mills with Rev. Shelley Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
