12-25-2009: From Richmond, Indiana "Pal-Item" WEBSTER, Ind. -- Juanita Laswell, age 79, of Webster, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, of diabetes-related causes at Golden Living Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Rock Castle County, Ky., the youngest of John Milton and Cora Lee Abney's 10 children. Juanita was a drug rehabilitation counselor at the Richmond State Hospital for over 20 years, assisting in the recovery of countless patients in need. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Those who loved and knew her now take comfort in the knowledge that she rests in the loving embrace of Christ Jesus. Led by His example throughout her life, she gave endlessly of her love and resources to anyone that she could reach to help. Therefore, we are comforted in the knowledge that she who asked so little from the world in exchange for her kindness has received her eternal reward. Survivors include her children, Glenn Laswell and his wife Blayne of Spartanburg, Deborah Sue Newton of Webster, Ronald Keith Laswell of Webster, Phyllis Kay Menefee of Burlington, Ky., and Cora Denise Smallwood and her husband Rick of Richmond; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Shirley Laswell, who died in 2008. Visitation for Juanita Laswell will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain Rev. David Hogg officiating. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery.
