    3. Rose, Are your Slaughter relatives connected to the Katy Slaughter (born Dec 14, 1878 in Crab Orchard Lincoln County, Kentucky) who married John Zackary Carson (born Feb 23, 1874 in Crab Orchard Lincoln County, Kentucky); and her sister Capitola Slaughter who married David Carson Holman (born Nov 26, 1878 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky)? Jerry Radke Harrisburg, PA ===================== Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2008 13:10:14 -0600 From: "Rose Berry" <roseb@knology.net> Subject: Re: [KYROCKCA] re Lincoln County History Book To: <kyrockca@rootsweb.com> Jeanie, When I discovered that my relatives, Barnet Reed and Green and James Slaughter, of Rockcastle Co. had all changed their names after the Civil War, I researched the neighbors where they showed up on the census. They seemed to always go to where family were. You can take their census neighbor names to Rootsweb and then with the Index, look for the Lawrence name to see if there is a distant relative in that particular family. You can build on your knowledge that way. You can also find more researchers for your relative and someone will have more and different info than you. We found a family member who had a notation in family papers about the murder of the Slaughter father. So, we had one more new clue to go with. And, then by accident, a divorce petition showed that Green Slaughter had an indictment against him for murder. I haven't been able to get to Frankfort to the Ky Library to find the indictment, but that will help me with further research. I think if you discover exactly why your Lawrence changed his name, you will get more info. Any petition papers for war money will be a good source for info, list of witnesses to say that the petition is accurate. Sometimes those witnesses are family. Rose B ----------------------------

    3. No, it doesn't ring a bell, but there are many, many mysteries with Edward Slaughter. He was murdered in 1865, right after the war ended and we couldn't find anymore info. We think his son, Ned, was also murdered. That's why the rest of the Slaughters moved out of Rockcastle Co. And, Edward's in-laws were involved in the Garrard Co. Hill Evans feud, and his Haley relatives were involved with the Rockcastle Mullins Haley feud. Really a very violent time. Edward's family came out of Lunenburg Co. VA, William and Lucy Woodward Slaughter, into Stokes Co. NC. Who were the Caines? Maybe we can piece these families together! 3. Hi, Jerry, I've always wondered who Katy Slaughter was and have come across her name several times. My Slaughters were Edward and Dicey Cook Slaughter, out of Stokes Co. NC. They came into Rockcastle Co. around mid 1820s and lived on the Roundstone watercourse and are buried in Fairview Cemetery, which used to be their farm. There sons lived in Madison, Garrard and Rockcastle, then on to Marion Co. I'm thinking that Edward was related to John Hampton Slaughter whose Slaughters were in Mercer Co. Does any of these names ring a bell? At one time I found a Brother Slaughter and Joseph Slaughter on the Garrard Co. tax list, but didn't know who they were. 3. Hi, again, I found that Katy and Capitola are daughters of James Love Slaughter, son of John Hampton Slaughter and Julia Love. So, yes, they do have a connection to my Edward Slaughter, but I just don't know how John Hampton Slaughter and my Edward were related. John Hampton Slaughter was already in Rockcastle Co. Ky on the Roundstone watercourse when Edward and his family arrived and lived on the same course. They can actually each go back several generations for a 'for sure' relationship in VA, but I'm thinking they were more like cousins. I have a lot of Slaughter info if you need some!
