    3. This is my great grandfather, he is the son of James Vaughn & Feribe Helton. If you will see below, he was ambushed and killed trying to bring Unions to the mines. I have never been able to find any information on his death or whether anyone was caught. If anyone runs across any information would you please email me at Kygal@tampabay.rr.com. I would be so grateful. Thank you in advance. 1. LEWIS3 VAUGHN (JAMES2, JOHN1) was born September 1857 in Clay County, Kentucky, and died 24 October 1909 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky. He married (1) LAVINA JANE BLANTON 24 December 1878 in Harlan County, Kentucky, daughter of ANDREW BLANTON and NANCY SIMPSON. She was born 1864 in Kentucky. He married (2) RACHEL ARAMINTA THOMAS 1892 in Larue County, Kentucky, daughter of BARIED THOMAS and DEBORAH BROCK. She was born 10 March 1874 in Livingston, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, and died 06 October 1932 in Rex, Harlan County, Kentucky. Notes for LEWIS VAUGHN: Shot to death (ambushed) Lewis Vaughn was shot to death while walking home from a union meeting for the coal mines. Lewis was attempting to get the unions in the mining camps. He was ambushed and no one was ever convicted of his murder. Lewis is buried at Stoney Fork Hollow in Middlesboro Kentucky. This was a mining camp. Source: Daughter Nellie Vaughn Ballard.
