Robert W. Owens - Hamilton, Ohio, "Journal News," obit dated 11-15-1997 Robert W. Owens age 84 of Hamilton, Ohio passed away Friday, November 14, 1997 at 5:45 a.m. at Fort Hamilton Hughes Memorial Hospital. He was born August 20, 1913 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, the son of William and Ella (Frederick) Owens. On November 4, 1933 in McKee, Kentucky he married Dora Parrett, and just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He worked as a custodian for the Hamilton City Schools, retiring in 1976; he previously worked for the Bendix Corp. and at Miami University. Robert was a Kentucky Colonel, a CCC worker during World War II, and a member of the Hamilton Christian Center. He was an avid gardener and a Key chain collector, accumulating a collection of over 3,000. He annually participated in the Hamilton Antique Car Parade with his blue 1950 DeSoto. He is survived by his wife, Dora Owens; six sons, Gilbert (Donna) Owens of Shandon, Robert G. (Mary Lou) Owens Jr. of Sunman, Indiana, James (Sharon) Owens of Ruskin, Florida, Leroy (Joann) Owens of Hamilton, Ray (Ollie) Owens of Hamilton, Donnie (Norma) Owens of Middletown; one daughter, Betty Allene Sirk of Daytona Beach, Florida; nineteen grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; one brother, Woodrow Owens of Hamilton; three sisters, Ada Bonar of Hamilton, Lucy (Sherman) Jones of Hamilton, Elizabeth (Floyd) Stokes of Mt. Vernon Kentucky, Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jonathan in 1973, three brothers, Oscar, Raymond, and Lester Owens, and a sister, Gladys Clontz. Funeral services will be Monday, November 17, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home 1350 Millville Ave. Rev. Bobby Mills officiating. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Hamilton Christian Center.
