Hi If someone has the book with the index for the confederate pension applications and can give you the pension number for your ancestor, you can order the film from the LDS Family History Centers. Just last week I had one for a soldier from Morgan Co. Ky. The pensions are listed by application number, not alphabetically. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titlefilmnotes&columns=*%2C0%2C0&titleno=558566&disp=Civil+War+pension+application++ I know that is long and you may have to copy and paste in sections, but that is the link to the page. Hi, Jeanie, Here is the site that you can check for soldiers and their units. This site will give the info that you have below. You can go to the http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/3680/cw/cw.html and, then you can go to the National Archives for more detail on the records the govt. kept in order to pay the soldiers. I got these records for two relatives and they gave details about the soldiers physical appearance and where they were. You can also see if that person or their widow applied for a pension and those pension papers will tell you all kinds of good family history, parents, place they were born, etc. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/ Good luck! As someone who has review actual records, I can tell you the following: I would go to a regional or state library. These two places would most likely have the rolls that you need. Depending on what was recorded, there could be a trove of genealogical information!! This might include photocopies of marriage and death certificates, application for widow's pension, children - stuff like that. You really need to go thru each piece of paper that is included to determine if it is useful to you. I had a great great grandfather that served in the Civil War. I think he had about 12 pages of information. I had another great great grandfather who served in the Spanish-American War. I was shocked that there were 617 pages of information on this gentleman, only 100 were of genealogical interest! Another way for information to be found is to see if he is in the roll for the Sons of the Confederate Army (I think that's the name). I wish you the best of luck in your search!! I have the following info on a civil war record: W. T. Lawrence Confederate Kentucky 3 Kentucky Mounted Infantry 3rd Regiment, Kentucky Mounted Infantry Comp M Rank Private Film M377roll 8 My questions and comments follow 1. exactly where does one find these films and are they available thru a mail request? 2. exactly what additional info can I expect to find (if any) in the microfilm records? I am not absolutely certain that this is my ancestor and would need addl info to positively ID him. Also does anyone know if this is a area that people from Rockcastle, Lincoln and Pulaski Counties would have chosen? I would be very grateful for addl info or suggestions you could give. Jeanie, does the name Ben Goff sound familiar? When I was growing up in Rockcastle County and living on the Rockcastle River, a man by the name of Ben Goff had a fishing camp near my home. Anita

Looking for any descendants of Johnnie Halcomb and Mallie Young. Is Johnnie any relation to the W. C. Halcomb also buried in the cemetery at Brodhead? Johnnie died in 1971. Wilma
Hi all. A few months ago, while researching for a client, I was using the microfilmed records of the Rockcastle County wills. Will book "D" (1861-1903) contained no index in the original book. So... I created an index for it, which includes the names and page numbers of the deceased. It does not include other names mentioned in these wills or estate records. I have placed this will index on my webpage at www.digginbones.com From the main page, click the "Records on Site" link on the left hand side of the page. At the bottom of the page, you will see the link for the Rockcastle County Will book index. I just created this "Records" page on my website last night. There are only 3 items there currently, including the Rockcastle County will records mentioned above. Look for more records to be added as I have time. Hope you all find some useful information in this will index. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. Butler St. Redkey, IN 47373 www.digginbones.com Some Free Lookups http://progenealogy.blogspot.com

Hello all! First, I have to warn that the following information is based on information gathered from the Census, and my own speculation, hunches, and deduction. My 3rd great-grandparents were James Woodall & his wife, Eliza Jane, through their son William Thomas Woodall. I believe Eliza Jane Woodall died February 5, 1901 and is buried in Brodhead Baptist Church Cemetery. I do not have a maiden name for Eliza Jane, but I am hoping to discover it through her descendants. I don't have access to any Ky death records except for the Ky Death Index online, which starts at 1911. So, I am trying to find one of her children's death certificate, which sometimes lists the mother's maiden name (if known). However, in the 1900 Census, Eliza Jane states that only 4 of her 9 children are still living. I know three were William Thomas, Eliza Ann, and Nancy "Nannie". William Thomas died in 1910, so this doesn't help. This is where I *think* the Jarrett family comes in. In the 1880 Census, Lucinda Woodall is married to John Jarrett, and they have children Luther, Owen, John, & Della. On August 13, 1883, John Jarrett married Nannie Woodall, Lucinda's sister. Did John & Lucinda divorce or did she die? I speculate that she passed away. John & Nannie had daughter Lou & Dolly (Census info). On August 23, 1889 Eliza Ann married John Roberts. I don't think they had any children. So, if I can find the death certificates (or descendants->) for Mrs. Nannie Jarrett & Mrs. Eliza Ann Roberts, perhaps it will list their mother's (Eliza Jane) maiden name. Thanks! Betty
