8-02-2008: From Richmond, Indiana "Pal-Item" WEBSTER, Ind. -- Shirley Laswell, age 80, of Webster, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Reid Hospital. Born March 9, 1928, in Rockcastle County, Ky., to Salem and Rachel Abner Laswell, he was a resident of this area since 1942. Shirley retired from Belden in 1989 after 44 years. We, the Laswell family, and those who have married into or out of it along with his friends in Christ, mourn the loss of Shirley, beloved husband to Juanita Abney Laswell and father to Glenn Laswell and his wife Blayne of Spartanburg, Deborah Sue Newton of Webster, Ronald Keith Laswell of Webster, Phyllis Kay Menefee of Burlington, Ky., and Cora Denise Smallwood and her husband Rick of Richmond. His legacy as a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church; a friend; a grandfather of 11; great- grandfather of 14; great-great-grandfather of one; brother of Allie Jane Greer of McMinnville, Tenn.; uncle to nieces and nephews; as well as his supreme diligence and generosity as a man of God will always be remembered. We shall have hope in the Lord to renew our strength as it says in Isaiah, knowing that he now soars on wings like eagles, we who are left must walk and not faint. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mamyee Laswell, Arnold Laswell, Ines Hensley, Lloyd Laswell, Wanetta Watts, and Beulah Archer; and two special nieces, Lois Simpson and June Siebert. Visitation for Shirley Laswell will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Wagers and Rev. Lester Maples officiating. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery. I have an ancestor, Clark SKINNER b. 1794 KY who had land grants for property [5o acres] on Dry Fr. Crooked Creek and [50 acres] Dry Fk. Valley. I did find on a map that showed where the Dry Fk. Creek merged into the Crooked Creek the place close to where it merged was Johnetta KY. Would the land in that area have been called Dry Fk. Valley? The person he sold the land to on the 1850 census was listed as living in the Northern Dist. Did I find the correct place? If anyone knows anything about this area, I would love to hear about it. Just trying to pinpoint better where my ancestor lived. thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White : vwhite0901@aol.com _My Family Tree Page_ (http://hometown.aol.com/vwhite0901/myhomepage/heritage.html) & _My Family and more_ (http://hometown.aol.com/vwhite0901/myhomepage/family.html) "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." Please Forgive. Though I do have a Anderson Smith family in Pulaski Co. KY I should have been reffering to my Thompson family of Pulaski Co. and to the Thompson family of Rockcastle Co. I think a next edition would be so helpful and there are so many to contribute. I have DURHAM...CHASTEEN....HARDIN....MOORE...MORRIS...BAKER and who knows who else from this county....I have been researching for 16 years...it sure would be nice to have an updated editon. ---- Rose Berry <roseb@knology.net> wrote: ============= Perhaps, the Rockcastle Historical Soc. could take a copy of the book to a local printing company and have them copy it and do a soft binding and then sell it. Rhonda, That is a good idea, but it is a lot of work of which I am not capable of anymore. Since I missed getting my family into the current book, I would like to get an article about them into a new edition. By chance, are you related to Devada Gadd who married Ronnie Bowling? I just have a question about this book and anyone that could assist me. Where can this book be found/purchased? Also, if someone has this book, and is willing to do a quick look for a couple of surnames, I would appreciate it. The surnames are SPIVEY & MOORE. Please don't copy the things listed about these names, I'm just wondering if I would find anything of value with regard to these names in this book. If so, I'll proceed from there. Rose and others on this list. Most of us are aware of the Copy right laws but obviously some are not. Here are a couple of internet sights that can get you up to speed on these laws: http://www.copyright.gov http://www.benedict.com http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html If you still have questions just Google "Copy Right Law" and you will get a zillion hits. Rose, I know you were not trying to infringe on any of the Historical Societies copy rights but as an author of my own Buford Family genealogy book: http://www.bufordfamilies.com/bufordfamiliesinamericabook.htm I know how much work goes into the writing of a genealogy book not to mention all the money that is also involved. I am still trying to re-coup the money I spent the ten years before publishing my book. I would not hesitate to sue anyone owning my book if they took it upon themselves to republish any part of it no matter how small a part it might be. I sent a final rough draft of the book to the Library of Congress for the express purpose of getting a copy right date before it was ever published. Have a great day everyone, fern www.bufordfamilies.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Rose Berry To: Don Rubarts ; kyrockca@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, September 19, 2008 7:33 AM Subject: Re: [KYROCKCA] RE" Rockcastle County Ky & its people - Important,Read this everyone! Hi, Don, I just got this message from the Rockcastle County Historical Society: Rose: I guess you know that we have a Copy rite on this Book and you cannot copy more that 15 pages. >From what I see you are going to be copying more that you are allowed to copy. Dorotha Jean Shoemaker, Rockcastle County Historical Society, INC. Here's my reply: Actually, I didn't know that. Perhaps, there is something the historical society could do for all these researchers that don't have access to the book, while generating funds for your society. You might have this put on Rockcastle's website and for a fee, copy the info and send to researcher's requesting it. When I've copied from any book in my library's genealogical section, there has never been any info posted about copyrights. Thanks for this info.
