    1. Task force Needs help locating cemeteries
    2. John Vice
    3. Hello All, This is being sent to you in case you haven't already heard about it before. I have just uncovered information that asks Kentuckians (or, I guess even people from out of the state of Kentucky) to let Kentucky's Task Force on Cemetery Preservation (Office of the Kentucky Attorney General) know about the location of Cemeteries which can allow the state of Kentucky provide proper aid, etc. The 38 member Task Force on Cemetery Preservation was formed by order of Gov. Patton sometime earlier this year. This sounds like a way to apply for aid to many of the historic & abandoned cemeteries throughout Kentucky. I know I have heard many persons on many of these mailing lists express concerns about the condition & care of old abandoned cemeteries here in Kentucky. There is a more detailed explanation at the following website (all or most questions you have can be answered when you visit this website): www.kyattorneygeneral.com/cemetery Time is short. From the above website, you can download a form to be filled out (or the form is also said to be available at the county judge's offices throughout Kentucky). IMPORTANT--This form must be filled out & submitted no later than August 15, 2001. So, if you have a cemetery (or cemeteries) within Kentucky that you are interested in having the State of Kentucky providing aid to, this form can filled out by any interested person & mailed as instructed (especially historic cemeteries that are overgrown, abandoned, and neglected). Hope this interests all of you. John Vice

    3. This was sent to me from the Harland County List and I know it will be important!! Rhonda --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Brice53218@aol.com To: KYHARLAN-L@rootsweb.com Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2001 11:25:42 EDT Subject: [KYHARLAN-L] Task force Needs help locating cemeteries Message-ID: <20.1a4cbe8d.28a010f6@aol.com> This was a newspaper clipping given to me from Pulaski Co, Ky. barb TASK FORCE NEEDS HELP LOCATING CEMETERIES By Elizabeth N Dick CJ Staff Writer Kentucky's Task Force on Cemetery Preservation, along with Attorney General Ben Chandler, need your help in locating cemeteries across the state, as part of a cemetery status report to be given to the 2002 General Assembly. Earlier this year Gov. Patton ordered the formation of a 38-member task force to locate and assess historical or culturally significant cemeteries in Kentucky. Three of Louisville's significant cemeteries are being assessed for long-term maintenance, as well as Lexington's Cove Haven Cemetery. Pulaski County Judge-Executive Darrell BeShears is encouraging citizens to complete a survey and identify these historically or culturally significant cemeteries, which will help the state provide proper maintenance. BeShears also explained that the survey will help the county know which cemeteries need better access. "There are a number of cemeteries in Pulaski County that don't have proper access," said BeShears. "The roads have been covered up or there is no road at all. This program will help us locate those cemeteries." BeShears explained that locating family plots is also important because some may not have been used for many years. Chandler hopes that all Kentuckians, who have knowledge of significant cemeteries that are facing challenges in providing the level of care or protection they deserve, will take the time to fill out the survey, located in their county judge's office. Survey forms should be submitted by August 15 and the task force will then compile a report to be given to the 2002 General Assembly. Forms can also be downloaded or completed online at www.kyattorneygeneral.com/cemetery. Completed forms should be returned to the Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division, 1024 Capital Center Dr., Frankfort, Ky 40601 or faxed to (502)573-8317. ==== KYHARLAN Mailing List ==== Harlan,Ky Coal Miners Website http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycoalmi/ ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. For any genealogist, I think you will find this information helpful! About two months ago, a cousin on another line I am working on told me about http://www.findagrave.com and how wonderful it was. I decided to check it out myself. There are two sides to Find A Grave - the famous, and everyone else. I went to the non-famous side and I found alot of information that others, like yourself, have submitted. This was great! Basically you type in a name, and a state where you think they were buried. If anything comes up, it lists it. The same thing with a cemetery look-up (except it lists all the cemeteries with that name and the counties they are in). Now what if the cemetery is there, but your family member is not? Well, if you have the info, you can add them! What if neither the cemetery or person is not there? If you have the info, you can add it. Best of all, it costs NOTHING! You can leave virtual flowers, messages, and even photos! To this date, I myself have submitted over 400 names, a few photos, and virutal flowers. I hope that you will consider visiting this site and making it the best site possible. Rhonda ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. Bowman/Hiatt
    2. Linda Stienstra
    3. This is my first post to this list and hopefully someone can direct me in the right direction. I am in the process of researching my ex-husband's family to add to my database (for my kid's and grandkid's sake!) and I have several questions. I am getting no help from my ex since he is not interested in this. 1. My ex-father-in-law was WILLIAM HENRY BOWMAN (b 22 Feb 1908, Mt. Vernon, KY, d. 12 Sep 1964, Hemet, CA). He was the son of: 2. CLEVIA FRANKIE HIATT (b. 15 Aug 1886, Rockcastle Co, KY, d. 11 Jul 1968, Rockcastle Co., KY) and her first husband, CHARLES JACKSON BOWMAN (b. 10 Jan 1882, Owsley Co, KY, d. 10 Jan 1911, Rockcastle Co., KY) (She later married THOMAS C. JOHNSON, but I have no particulars on that marriage.) I do know that Bill Bowman had a brother named Hubert, and two sisters. I don't know their names, though. If anyone is researching either this Bowman line (Charles was the son of ISAAC A. and MARY HENSLEY BOWMAN and Clevia Frankie was the daughter of ANDREW CONRAD and LAURA ELLEN SMITH HIATT), I would appreciate any help on this. Bowmans and Hiatts seem to be like my Zieglers and Wolfs in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and I'm having trouble trying to figure this all out. On Charles Bowman's death certificate, the information was furnished by his brother, Squire Felix Bowman. This is another question. I notice by going through Rootsweb site and the old newspaper articles listed that Squire seemed to be a title and not a name. Am I correct? On Squire Felix's death certificate it shows that he was a teacher. Is Squire just a common name in that area? I have been researching for 10 years, but have been concentrating in the Pennsylvania area on my family. This is my first trip "south" and I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance. 3. Am searching for the ancestry of William Capps (born Feb. 14, 1814 in North Carolina & died in Rockcastle Co., Ky. on Aug. 14, 1888 & buried in the Levi Denny Cemetery in Rockcastle Co., Ky.). The wife of William Capps is apparently buried also beside her husband in the Levi Denny Cemetery in Rockcastle Co., Ky. She died in 1901. Who were the parents of William Capps (1814-1888) and who were his ancestors? Apparently, his parents & ancestors were from North Carolina & emigrated into Kentucky not long after William's birth on Feb. 14, 1814. William Capps married Margaret (Peggy) Owens (date unknown but probably in Rockcastle Co., Ky.--marriage in this time period destroyed by courthouse fire) & had 3 known children-- #1 = Robert I. Capps (1836-1903)--settled in Bath Co., Ky. #2= Sarah Ann (Sally) Capps (1838-1922)--married first to William Smith Adams (1839-1887) & Sarah Ann Capps Adams married second to Henry Onkst. William Smith Adams was buried in the Dave Adams Cemetery in Rockcastle Co., Ky. Sarah Ann Capps Adams Onkst is said to also be buried in the Dave Adams Cemetery (with no marker). Many children by the marriage of William Smith & Sarah (Sally) Ann Capps Adams. #3= William G. Capps (1842-1924)--married 3 times; first to Sarah (Sallie) Warmsley on Sept. 3, 1863 & had many children that are buried in Old Freedom Cemetery & Lear Cemetery; married second to Jane (maiden name unknown) whom he divorced and had no children by this marriage; married third to Sarah Catherine Rigsby Lear and had probably 3 known children. William G. Capps come to settle in Illinois & Indiana & died in Illinois. Both the sons, Robert I. Capps & William G. Capps served in the same unit in the Union Army during the Civil War. Robert I. Capps come to settle in Bath Co., Ky. & William G. Capps (his brother) settled back in his home county--Rockcastle Co., Ky. Any help will be greatly appreciated. 3. Gary, I was going though some of my saved E-mails and I see I didn't answer yours. About Richard (Coliar) Colier,Collier,Colyer???? One day I was looking for any info on Charles Richard Colyer and was stopping at Courthouses and grave sites and just happen to stop there at Mt. Pleasant Baptist church and saw the cemetery. I saw one marker with Richard Coliar and one or two marked Collier, but at the time I was only looking for Colyers and didn't copy down the names of the Colliers. I did see at the courthouse land records reference to Stephen Collier or Colyer buying or bordering someone else land. What type of info do you need? I know a few people from this Net that may have a little info and in fact may see this post and help us.
