I have information that Sarah E. JOHNSTON/JOHNSON is listed in the Rockcastle Cemetery Book. She is said to have died 17 Aug 1925. Would someone please lookup the the entire record? JOHNSTON is her maiden name. I have no information regarding a possible married name. TIA, Corinne
Ok, when in question, turn to the great minds of List Members. John B. Johnson may have been born in Rockcastle Co., KY, I believe he was born in Taney Co., MO. After tracing his parents Frances Marion Johnson/Johnston and Melinda Barnett (who was born in Scott Co., VA) and their children, I can't prove he was born in Taney Co., MO, but can prove he didn't die until after 1954. His sister's obit has him listed as surviving her death.. What I need is his Social Security number or place and yr of death. Anyone can help me? Also doesn't anyone know of any of his children, etc. Thank you for all the help. I'm cleaning out all my research material from 23 yrs....Now don't go into shock! I have found pictures I didn't know I had and many folders of files that has been sent me over the first 15 yrs. Call me a "Pack Rat" if you feel the need. I found about 200 death certs from TN, KY, MO and other places.... my eyes are burning from all the years of dust accumulation. I am also giving to my CA RM Genealogy Society here in Fresno, CA a box or two of material and books that was sent me many years ago.... Family History books that isn't connected to any of my families. Can't think of a better place for it, can you? One large book was Peter Ingles family of Walker AL, some moved onto Texas.... That is what it says on the first page....... Finally found the letter Clude E. Johnson written 9-18-1922. The letter is about 3-4 pages typed and I'll scan it and place on the site as soon as I have time tonight. He's from Frances Marion Johnston/Johnson and Melinda Barnett line from Scott Co., VA. For you Malicoats I found some Indian Roll numbers for our James H. Mallicoat line.... Malicoat also connect to the Scott Co., VA Barnett's. So if you don't hear much from me in the next few weeks, you'll know I'm not dead, just cleaning out old research material. Slowly entering and scanning onto CD..... Jean Brand Fresno, CA

Thank you all for the informative and QUICK responses! I am interested in any more information you might have on Samuel S. Bryant, husband of Elizabeth Langford. Are his parents Samuel Bryant and Nancy Ann Chaney Cooper? If so, I have no info about them except for their names. I am curious about the Chaney Cooper name. Was Nancy married prior to Samuel? Perhaps someone can help me untangle this next mess involving Mary "Mollie" Bryant (daughter of Samuel Bryant and Elizabeth Langford). I have two marriage dates for a Mary Bryant: WOODALL, THOMAS Spouse: BRYANT, MARY E. Marriage Date: 01 Dec 1874 County: Rockcastle State: KY and WOODALL, T. W. Spouse: BRYANT, MARY B. Marriage Date: 24 Dec 1874 County: Rockcastle State: KY As you can see, Mary is listed as Mary E. and Mary B. Could there have been two Mary Bryant's who married a Woodall? Why are there two separate dates? I really know nothing about record keeping back then. William Thomas Woodall and Mary Bryant are my gg-grandparents. It is highly likely that William Woodall went by "Thomas" as did his youngest son. In the 1880 Census, William Woodall is listed as Thomas and Mary is listed as Mary B. In the 1900 Census, William Woodall is listed as William, and Mary is listed as Mollie. Nicknames, argh! Thanks again (I feel like I might be getting somewhere!), Betty

One of my brick walls has been my gg-grandmother, Mary "Mollie" Bryant (b.26 Mar 1859) . While scanning the 1860 Census of Rockcastle County, I found a Mary B. Bryant living in the home of Liberty Langford. Mary was 1 year old. This is what the census listed: Liberty Langford: M, 50 yrs old, Ky, farmer Sarah: F, 50 yrs old, Ky Francis: F, 23 yrs old, Ky Henry: M, 21 yrs old, Ky B. L. Price: M, 22 yrs old, Ky Samuel Bryant: M, 28 yrs old, Ky, carpenter Elizabeth: F, 27 yrs old, Ky Josiah: M, 7 yrs old, Mo Sarah: F, 4 yrs old, Mo Mary B.: F, 1 yr old, Ky So, I am assuming Samuel and Elizabeth Bryant are the parents of my Mary B. Bryant, and Liberty and Sarah are the parents of Samuel's wife, Elizabeth. Does anyone have information on Liberty and Sarah Langford? With much appreciation! Betty
May I have a lookup in the 1850 and/or 1860 census for Edward J. Rice and his wife Sarah Holman Rice? They were living in Green Township, Morgan County, Indiana. Malinda , his wife, and two small sons by Peters husband returned to Robinette Valley. "Douglas County Herald January 23, 1890 SHOT and KILLED A fight with pistols and rocks resulting in the death of General Johnson, of this county, took place at the residence of Wm. Vaughn, about 12 miles southwest of Ava on Friday, the 18th inst. William Vaughn and General Johnson were brother-in-law, and have been in a troublesome dispute about the location of a county road, which runs near their farms, for some six months past. Vaughn had just returned from a mill trip to Rome, when Johnson rode up to him on horseback, and a few words passed between them. Both of the men dismounted, and commenced throwing rocks, which was quickly followed by drawing of pistols by both of them and the firing of three or four shots. Johnson was struck in the head by two balls from Vaughn's pistol, making two wounds, either one of which was fatal, add fell dead on the spot. An inquest was held by the coroner at Vaughn's house, and the jury found that the deceased came to his death from the wounds inflicted by Vaughn. General Johnson's remains were taken by the masons of which order he was a member and the funeral took place on Sunday, 19th inst. The preliminary examination will be held at the court house in Ava in Friday, the 23d, before Squire Matthews." When I was a child I remember my grandmother, Grace (SOARD) TROXAL, teaching me something she learned from her father, Thomas SOARD, I see to remember her calling it "counting country." It went something like: one-yer two-yer ziggry zaw hollowbone cracklebone wheelbarrow backstone humpback ten My aunt asked me recently if I remembered it. She says I have one of the words wrong but I don't remember which one. Also, she said one of her grandsons found it in an encyclopedia a number of years ago but I haven't had such luck and don't even know how to look for it. My aunt seemed to think it was of Scottish origin but I can't find it in any Gaelic dictionaries. Has anyone ever heard this or have any suggestions how to find its origin? Later...
