    1. lookup in the 1880 census
    2. Would anyone have access to an index to the 1880 census for Rockcastle County KY? I am looking for a listing in the 1880 census for a Lucy Catherine BLOOMER who was born about 1874 in Rockcastle County KY. I'm sorry I do not know her parents or siblings to help with this lookup. I found a lookup volunteer for the 1880 census on the Rockcastle Co. KY GenWeb page, but her email was returned as address undeliverable, so I thought I would try this list. Thanks for any help or suggestions........Diana M. Hebner dmhebner@aol.com

    1. Reason for no Birth records for CA
    2. Jean Brand
    3. Lists Members, Yesterday I was down at Fresno Co, CA Hall of Records, I spoke with the Supervisor as to why the Birth records were being denied to the public over the inter-net, her reply was, "RootsWeb requested they be removed," my next question was, "aren't the birth records public?", reply, "yes, one can come in, research the births but can't be placed over cyber space." Due to staff shortage, they can't cross reference the birth and deaths. Tip, if one is ordering a Death Certificate for CA from Sacramento, you might want to order from the county and not the state. A cousin ordered her grandmother's DC from Sacramento, hearing nothing after 4 months, she wrote me, I went down, found the DC under Malissa and not Melissa, the incorrect spelling kept Sacramento from sending the DC. They kept the cousin's money giving her nothing in return. The Fresno Co Library has old news papers with the obits, but no one to do look-ups, so our Genealogy Ca Room has started a Obit file at the main library. When you write, best to address as: Ca Genealogy Room (Main Library) 2420 Mariposa Fresno CA 93721 559-488-3195 Happy Holidays Jean Brand Fresno CA

    1. Dora Siler Johnson 10-08-1981 wife of John Baptist Johnson
    2. Jean Brand
    3. John Baptist Johnson was the son of Francis Marion Johnson of VA and Malinda Barnett of Scott Co., VA, then moved onto Rockcastle Co., KY and onto MO and ended up in Montana. Rather interesting story. Apart of my line Enjoy, Jean Brand Fresno CA Gail Warren says this is from "Ava, Missouri Newspaper" Oct. 8, 1981 by Maggie Kanta An independent woman "Clean living, no alcohol or cigarettes and drinks lots of very cold water." That's the advice of Mrs. J.B. (Dora) Johnson, who is celebrating her 100th birthday today. Dora was born and raised on a farm near Forsyth, Missouri. She attended a country school and eventually taught there. But was forced to quit two years after setting out her career when she contracted malaria fever. On her father's advice, she moved to Washington for health purposes. While there she re-met John B. Johnson, the both of them having grown up together on neighboring farms back in Missouri. They were married in 1906 and moved to Nome, Alaska. After six years they moved back to Washington and with a desire to farm and no cheap farm land available. They again moved, this time bound for Montana with the intent to homestead. They settled out of Armells Creek, 30 miles from Forsyth, in 1915. "I can remember going out to see the site where Colstrip was supposed to be," Dora recalls. "Now it seems to be quite a big town." Dora and John lived on the homestead 39 years before moving to Forsyth to make their home. John died of diabetes in 1959, and after 53 years of marriage, Dora again was alone. Dora says she doesn't feel alone, though. "Some of the best friends I've ever had live here in Forsyth," she states. One such friend is Bernice Higginbotham. Perhaps Dora's guardian angel, Bernice is one of the reasons Dora can lead her independent life. "There isn't a day goes by that she isn't over here at least once, sometimes four or five times to check on me. I couldn't do it on my own without her," Dora claims. A very independent woman, Dora says the hardest thing for her to adjust to about growing old as the decline in her eyesight. "I drove up until the age 92, and having driven a truck and a tractor on the homestead, besides a car, it was a hard thing for me to give up." Carol Bailey, wife of Jack Bailey of Colstrip, Dora's oldest grandson, is responsible for arranging the 100 year celebration for Fora to be held this afternoon at the Senior Citizens Center in Forsyth from 2:30 to 4:30. A three-tier cake is being baked which will feed 90 people, and anyone wanting to extend birthday greetings to Dora is urged to attend. Her three grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and on great-great-grandson will all be in Forsyth for the celebration. Dora will have a houseful and she says, "everyone says I''m not to go to any trouble, but I still plan to cooking a big turkey." Perhaps in a fatigued world of searching for the perfect energy source, we would be wise to plug into the vitality of this 100 year old woman. Happy birthday, Dora. May you have many, many more.

    1. KY, 1870, Holman (Holdman, Holeman)
    2. Hi, May I have a lookup in the 1970 KY Census for James Holman (aka Holdman, Holeman) and his wife Patsy. JAMES HOLMAN (or Holeman or Holdman) was born about 1814 or 1815 in Kentucky or Virginia. He was a farmer. He may have had a brother named William H. Holdman, born about 1827 in Virginia. On June 3, 1835 in Garrard County, KY, James Holman married Martha (Patsy) Ramsey. Patsy was born about 1815 or 1816 in Kentucky or Virginia. Alex Ramsey was the bondsman for the marriage. These are my great, great grandparents. I have found documentation on their marriage (Holeman), and located them in the 1850 Census (Holdman in Lincoln County, KY), the 1860 Census (Holeman in Garrard County, KY), and the 1880 Census (Holman in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, KY). I found their son Daniel Holman in the 1870 and 1880 Census in Mt. Vernon, Rockcastle County, KY. I found their son Thomas in the 1880 Census in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, KY. I found their daughter Sarah Holman McGill in the 1880 Census in Vanceburg, Lewis, KY. I found their daughter Mandy Holman Tatum in the 1880 Census in Foxtown, Madison, KY. I have documentation that their son Samuel David Holman was born June 7, 1859 in Garrard County, KY and died February 19, 1900 in Crab Orchard, KY. I am trying to tie this family to one of the established Holman/Holeman lines. I am hoping the 1870 Census might offer another clue. Jerry Radke Harrisburg, PA

    3. Jerry, I don't know if this is any help or not, but I have information showing that a James W. Holman married Martha Ann Owen Dec. 27 1842 in Laurel County, KY. This marriage is recorded in Marriage Book AA, page 28. Ann was born about 1826 in Kentucky and was living in Kansas in 1907 when her father died. This is all the information I have on Martha and James W. Holman (I do have additional on her family if this couple seems to fit in anywhere for you). If you have any info on them, I would appreciate hearing from you.
