    1. Hertig name
    2. D. M. Coffey
    3. Hi Linda, Rockcastle County Marriages 1858-1900 shows: John Hertig and Mahala Miller marrying on either 30 May 1888 or 30 Aug 1888. There are two dates listed so one is probably the date it was recorded and the other the marriage date. You can send for the marriage certificate and get the actual date from it. The 1900 Rockcastle County, Ky, census shows: John Hertig b: Nov 1848, age: 51, married 12 years, pob: Switzerland, fpob: Switzerland, mpob: Switzerland, farmer Year of immigration:1885; Years in USA - 15; Naturalization status: NA Jane Hertig, wife, b: Jul 1860, age:39, married 12 years, #ch:5, Lch:5, pob: Ky, fpob: Ky, mpob: Ky Herman, son, Jun 1890, age:9 Ky, Swz, Ky William, son, Mar 1891, age:9 Ky, Swz, Ky Robert, son, Sep 1894, age:5 Ky, Swz, Ky John R, son, Jun 1896, age:3 Ky, Swz, Ky James A, son, May 1899, age:1 Ky, Swz, Ky The Rockcastle County Cemetery Book shows: John Hertig h/ M.J. Hertig 17 Nov 1842 - 18 Jun 1902 A slight difference in birth year compared to his year of birth in the census but that was not uncommon to see. M. J. I guess would be for Mahala Jane, yes? He is buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Rockcastle County, Ky. Directions: On Route #25 south of Mt. Vernon, Ky, start at the intersection of the north bound exit ramp of Interstate 75 and #25, continue south on #25 2.1 miles to side road, turn left, cross railroad track, turn left .1 mile to cemetery on right. 1. Town of Johnetta
    2. Hi List, I'm new to the list and have traced my Cates line back to Rockcastle and Madison Cos. My GG Grandfather David Cates b. abt 1807, d. 30 Nov 1873, Rockcastle or Madison Co., had his Civil War disability discharge papers sent to Goochland in 1863. One of his G Granddaughters is named Johnetta. Can anyone tell me something about the town of Johnetta located about a mile south of Goochland? Or a good library source? I'm interested in how the town got its name, and the usual background history of the town. Thanks. Lloyd lahollytree1@mris.com (lower case)

    1. COL. WILLIAM FISH=ANNIE LOGAN
    2. Fordyce B. Logan
    3. I am looking for information on Nathaniel Logan of Lincoln Co. Ky. & HIS DAUGHTER ANNIE LOGAN . ANNIE LOGAN who married COL. WILLIAM FISH OF ROCKCASTLE DO. KY. NATHANIEL LOGAN may have moved to Rockcastle. co. KY. By 1793 After selling his 1,400 acres on LOGAN'S CREEK in Lincoln, Co. ,which is now now part of the town of Stanford. By 1793. His wife, Judith Wilson had died after a short marriage Then Nathaniel had married Polly Harvey Sept 26 1801. in Lincoln Co. Ky. At that time his records in Lincoln Co. ended. The next record that we have of Nathaniel and his Dau Annie is contained in a bio a Bio of William M Fish. a son of Col William Fish of Rockcastle co. Ky. A Part of the Bio. Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Rockcastle County William M. Fish was born in Rockcastle County, Ky., November 16, 1828. His father, William Fish, a native of North Carolina, but of English descent, was the eldest son of Thomas and Winnifred (Burney) Fish, natives of England. William Fish, father of our subject, was a farmer in Rockcastle County, Ky. all his life, and was a man of considerable prominence in political and social affairs. About 1820 he was made sheriff of the county. He also served as a Colonel in the State militia. His wife, Annie, was born in Lincoln County, Ky. and was a daughter of Nathaniel Logan, of Irish descent. They had four children, viz: Sarah J., Harriet, William M. and John T.. He and his wife lived to a good old age, and died in Rockcastle County, members of the Christian Church. Col. William Fish had been married before he married Annie Logan,--married to Sallie Maret, and had four children by his first wife, viz: Winnifred, Margaret, Stephen G. and Burnetta. This is what the Bio says about William M. Fish , the son of Col. William Fish and Annie Logan.----- William M. Fish was reared and educated in Rockcastle County, Ky. and from boyhood has devoted the greater part of his time to agricultural pursuits, owning a fine farm in Rockcastle County. In 1862 he was elected county court clerk at Mount Vernon, and the following year was appointed Deputy United States Marshal, holding both offices for about three months. He resigned and was appointed Internal Revenue Assistant Assessor, and held this office for a number of years. He then held no office until 1873, when he was elected circuit clerk, to which office he has been re-elected once in six years ever since. His political preference is the Republican party, and he has always taken an active part in politics. December 8, 1856, he married Talitha T., a daughter of William and Charity (Lawrence) French, of Rockcastle County, Ky. Six children have blessed their union, viz: Mary L., Thomas J., Hattie J., Jones P., Charity A. and Marion G. Mr. Fish is a member of the F. & A.M. fraternity, and has been since the year 1857. I believe that Nathanel Logan and his wife Polly Harvey, after selling all of his land probably moved to Rockcastle Co, Ky, and probably near Mt. Vernon. If anyone Has any info on this LOGAN OR FISH family and their descendents please contact me. Nathaniel is my ggg Uncle and the only Logan line of Lincoln Co. on which I have not been able to complete the research. He is the brother of Col. Benjamin Logan of Logans Fort and the Brother of my GG Grandfather Capt.Hugh Logan of Botetourt Co. Va, and Lincoln Co. Ky. I would also like to know if anyone has the the early Land, Marriage and Birth records of Rockcastle Co. Or if someone could give me the address and the phone number of the Court house, where the records are kept. Also if there is anyone there who does lookups. I may be in Stanford in April and it is not far down Hwy150 to Mt. Vernon if that is where the records are. Maybe there are still some of my relatives still around the area.. I will be very grateful for any help. If Annie was the first or only child of Nathaniel and Polly Harvey she probably married Col. William Fish some time after 1823.
