Looks like a group of Renfro's left Kentucky about the same time as my gggrandfather George W. Henson .... that all went to Grundy Co MO. I am showing a James Crisman Renfro b April 25, 1818, probably Knox Co KY, as the son of William H Renfro and Nancy Van Bibber who married Nov 20, 1806 Knox Co KY. James Chrismon/Crisman Renfro had a brother Marcus and a brother Samuel Houston Renfro who married Elizabeth Jane Henson on Nov 16, 1848 Knox Co KY. James Renfro married Susan Thraikill on Aug 29, 1839 Grundy Co MO. Do you know anything about the Renfro's that moved to Grundy Co MO? They seem to be connected to my Henson line who also moved to Grundy Co MO, along with Elkins, Metcalfs, Blacks, Casteels and other from the Laurel Co KY area, including Rockcastle and Knox. Anybody know anything on these Renfro's who moved to Grundy Co MO??? I have 'a lot' of early Renfro's listed in my Kentucky data-base. The Forbis (Forbes/etc) were found early in Rockcastle Co KY ... I don't have any 'proof' on Druscilla/Drucilla ... but, she is a younger sister to my Anna Forbis who married George W. Henson of Laurel Co KY. I have not been researching Drucilla in particular, but I am 'very curious' about her marrying into a Lear/Lair family line, because my Henson line also connects to the Lear/Lair's. Drucilla and Anna's parents are William Forbis (Forbes/etc) and Sarah McCammon-Forbis, lastly of Laurel Co KY. William Forbis (Forbes/etc) is the son of Rev War Vet John Forbis (Forbes/etc) who lived out his life in Laurel Co KY. Drucilla Forbis married Thomas Lear/Lair in Laurel Co KY and had the following children (that I know of); John T. Lear/Lair b abt 1834 married Deborah 'Summers' June 1854 Laurel Co KY, Mary Ann Lear/Lair b abt 1834 married John 'Cornelius' on March 10, 1856 Laurel Co KY, and Thomas Lear/Lair JR married Mary 'Summers' abt 1854 Laurel Co KY. Drucilla's siblings are (not in birth order); my gggrandmother Anna Forbis (named after her grandmother Anna Cathers-McCammon) b abt 1808 Clay Co KY, William JR b abt 1813 Clay Co KY married to Adeline 'Parker', Elizabeth b abt 1816 married to Harrison Ross 'Porter', Elliot b abt 1829 married to Martha 'Parker' (sister? of Adeline Parker ... children of Phillip Alexander Parker and Margaret 'Peggy' Forbis (Forbes/etc), Asa P. born abt 1833 married to Lucinda Branstetter/Branstutter, Stephen (my gggrandmother Anna Forbis-Henson named her son Stephen Henson after her brother Stephen Forbis ... Stephen Henson is my greatgrandfather), Sarah b abt 1814 (named after her mother) married Allen 'Summers' (related to Mary Summers noted above?), and John Forbis b abt 1808 (named after his grandfather Rev War Vet John Forbis). John Forbis received a 'Deed of Gift' of land from his father William Forbis per Jan 11, 1846 Deed Book 'C' pg 144 Laurel Co KY. As a side note, Anna Forbis-Henson named one of her daughters 'Cornelia' possibly after the Forbis-Cornelius family connection. I am hoping you, and 'anyone' reading this information, can add some more information to what I am sharing with you, and this listing board, on my personal family line. Thanks for sharing. The Rockcastle County, Kentucky, website is superb! What an incredible job the coordinator, Jennifer Fish does! It is an absolute treasure house of information. It's a royal feast for those searching for ancestors and connections. Jennifer provides innovative ways to preserve the county's history. There are the usual links to genealogical information. But Jennifer goes a step further. She provides space for old photographs that make the history come to life. Families have their own page where photos can be displayed and family information shared. The county at large has its own photo gallery. There you will find pictures of houses and landmarks important to the county's history. Are you looking for information on education in Rockcastle County? Did great-grandpa attend a particular school? Examine the pictures of the old schoolhouses on the "Education" page. You can almost hear the teacher's bell calling reluctant children back to class. If you are lucky, you will find the picture of your grandfather's school. And even if you don't find his school in particular, you will have a fantastic idea what that school might have looked like. In creating this site, Jennifer has thought outside the box. The result is amazing. Let me share one example of her innovative design. At this site you will find a link to local funeral homes. Click on one of those links and you just might see photographs of an old hearse, the very one that carried great-grandmother to the grave you have been attempting to find. Suddenly family history lives, and genealogy becomes more than a list of names and dates. Do you want to see what was happening in the county in 1908? Go to the archive copies of the local paper and read for yourself what that ancestor of yours was doing. What did Uncle Charlie pay for a good horse? Who was running for County Sheriff? Did the Mt. Vernon ball team win? Jennifer doesn't just tell you where to go to begin searching for these newspapers. She provides them right on site. What an amazing wealth of accessible records! There's a page where individuals can submit death certificates so that other researchers can get information on site without waiting for that certified copy from Vital Statistics. Have you traced your family's genealogy? Jennifer has a place for you to submit that, too. This site is a researcher's dream. Searching for who is buried where? Click on the Cemetery page. Each cemetery with information currently available is listed with names and information taken directly from tombstones. And if there are pictures of those tombstones, those photographs are provided, too! I could go on forever about the contents of this site, but attention needs to be paid to its organization as well. This site is incredibly user friendly. It's easy to navigate, and there are no surprises. Jennifer provides exactly the information described in each category. What a relief after searching other county sites which sometimes hide information behind obscure headings. Jennifer is diligent about updating. In fact I'm amazed at how hard she works to keep the site current. And oh the joy of those little notifiers that say "updated" and "new!" Visit the site daily and you know exactly where to find the new research, photographs, archive newspapers, etc. As if all of this is not wealth enough, Jennifer has created a beautiful site as well. There's nothing drab about this site. It's altogether lovely! Check out the Rockcastle website. You are in for a delightful, informative, and downright "fun" experience. In my book, it's the best, and Jennifer deserves the grateful appreciation of genealogists and historians alike. How grateful I am that my ancestors were smart enough to live in Rockcastle County. Because of Jennifer Fish and her fantastic work, they have been so much easier to find and to place in the context of the times in which they lived. Thanks, Jennifer! James born 1801 Scott County, Virginia (but Scott didn't become a county until 1814 from Lee, Russell and Washington Counties) and Elizabeth was born 1827 Washington County, Virginia. James Barnett is buried at Barnett Cem, Big Ridge, (Clinchport area) Scott County, Virginia next to his first wife Mary Jane "Jennie" Williams who died 1860.
