The following obituary for Claud Allen Mullins appeared this morning in the "Athens Review," Athens, Henderson Co., TX. Although Claud and I never actually met, we found each other through our genealogy research. We exchanged many e-mails over the past several years and talked many times on the phone - he was not only my 4th cousin, but I considered him a very dear friend and I shall miss him and his always enlightening e-mails very much. I'm sure there are many of the Owens folk who subscribe to this board who have corresponded with Claud will feel sad as I at losing him. He has been a great help to many of us researching our Rockcastle County heritage. I have moved several times and had computer crash. So would like to hear from people researching Daniel Morgan. His son, Joseph, married Nancy Tompkins and they liked at Rock Castle, if memory serves me. I just want to get back on the mailing list and get going. Think I have finally found a parking place that I will be content to live in for the rest of my life.

Place and date: Near Yongsan, Korea, 1 September 1950. Entered service at: Livingston, Ky. Born: 10 November 1926, Livingston, Ky. G.O. No.: 78, 21 August 1952. Citation: Pfc. Smith, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and outstanding courage above and beyond the call of duty in action. Pfc. Smith was a gunner in the mortar section of Company E, emplaced in rugged mountainous terrain and under attack by a numerically superior hostile force. Bitter fighting ensued and the enemy overran forward elements, infiltrated the perimeter, and rendered friendly positions untenable. The mortar section was ordered to withdraw, but the enemy had encircled and closed in on the position. Observing a grenade lobbed at his emplacement, Pfc. Smith shouted a warning to his comrades and, fully aware of the odds against him, flung himself upon it and smothered the explosion with his body. Although mortally wounded in this display of valor, his intrepid act saved 5 men from death or serious injury. Pfc. Smith's inspirational conduct and supreme sacrifice reflect lasting glory on himself and are in keeping with the noble traditions of the infantry of the U.S. Army. Dear Cousins, A friend of mine (not on the list) is looking for a picture of the old Millard Shaffer store in Brodhead. She said it was also known as "Miss Shaffer's" store in later years. It was located near the railroad tracks in Brodhead. Apparently has been gone a long time. It holds a lot of memories for her and I would love to get a copy for her. Thanks for any help. Pat W. Ball
I need Jean Gentry's email address. Jean, if you see this, please send your address to me. I lost my address book in a crash. Maxine B. Friedly Descendant of Albert Albright and Catherine Webb

Charlotte, Per "Rockcastle Co., KY Marriages - Court Records 1858 through 1900" by Bonham and Hiatt (Rev. 1997), the only record for any SHORT is: SHEPARD, William A (34) to OVERSTREET, Addie (33) wit: Short, W. T., Mrs. Carmical, Sallie loc: Mt. Vernon, KY 23 Feb 1900 off: Carmical, John C., m.g. There aren't any listings for a Caroline Warren or Wariner. There are quite a few for WARREN, but nothing that fits your purposes. Jill
I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If anything the marriage could taken place alot eariler then 1870 but not later then 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte
