Dear list, I just subbed recently to the digest but saw no traffic, so I resubbed to the list. I am in the midst of a book project on five complete generations of descendents of Henry SURBER (b. ca 1718 in Switzerland) who arrived with his father Henry and his half-sister Verena in Philly in 1735. His step-mother and a half-brother died aboard ship. From PA, they went to VA by the early 175X's, migrating up (southwest) the Valley to the Washington Co VA area. They went to Pulaski County in the very early 180X's. My research covers all surnames. I am also interested in researching all half- and step-siblings of the surnames below. My direct line went from Pulaski Co in Jan 1870 to Kerr Co TX. Does anyone have any information on how a family would have left Pulaski Co for the west? They took right at a month to travel to TX. I am interested in sharing information or answering questions about any and/or all of the below surnames: SURBER -- Swiss German > PA > VA SHIELDS -- New England/PA > VA HUBBLE -- NY > VA ca mid to late 1770s McCLURE -- PA > VA MINTON -- possible Melungeon ties? WATKINS/WADKINS BRYANT BASTIN/BASTON/BASTIAN -- German LEWIS some SMITH STARNS -- originally German STARING BISHOP BLACK -- possibly (Swiss) German SCHWARTZ? ... and many others I have lots to share on these names and many others, and lots of questions to ask. Thanks, Rick Carpenter
I am inviting everyone to view my web site. I have listed all my surnames, plus some has photos of my ancestors. Please stop by and also sign my guestbook. From home page , click on to the genealogy page. Thanks. Rosemary Evon http://members.xoom.com/Rosemary_/home.html Be kind. I am new to this.(Grin)
Am looking for the parents of James/Daniel McKinney b. @1860 KY married Sallie Ann Ping. They lived in Pulaski Co. Had one daughter Eva Lena in KY then migrated to MO. They had another daughter Florence May in Edgar Springs, MO in 1891 Thank you Johanna Myatt
Dear list, I just subbed yesterday, but suspect I know quite a few of you since I belong to the SURBER, SW_VA, and VAWASHIN lists. My many Pulaski Co connections start with: Adam [Robert?] SURBER (b. ca 1751 in Germantown, Philadelphia Co PA, d. 10/11 Apr 1830/33 in Pulaski Co KY) m(1) ca 1776 to Margaret "Peggy" --?-- (d. aft 1 Sep 1801), m(2) 10 Oct 1822 in Washington Co TN as second husband to Mary {SHIELDS} McCLURE (b. ca 1775, d. ca 1845 in Pulaski Co KY). The many surnames in and associated with my line are: SURBER -- Swiss German > PA >VA SHIELDS -- New England/PA > VA HUBBLE -- NY > VA ca mid to late 1770s McCLURE -- PA > VA MINTON -- possible Melungeon ties? WATKINS/WADKINS BRYANT BASTIN/BASTON/BASTIAN -- German LEWIS some SMITH STARNS -- originally German STARING BISHOP BLACK -- possibly (Swiss) German SCHWARTZ ... and many others I have lots to share on these names and many others, and lots of questions to ask. Most my line came to Pulaski Co from the upper Valley of Virginia. Thanks, Rick Carpenter

The Recording of a Cemetery by Thelma Greene Reagan Today we walked where others walked On a lonely, windswept hill; Today we talked where others cried For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled. Today our hearts were touched By graves of tiny babies; Snatched from the arms of loving kin, In the heartbreak of the ages. Today we saw where the grandparents lay In the last sleep of their time; Lying under the trees and clouds - Their beds kissed by the sun and wind. Today we wondered about an unmarked spot; Who lies beneath this hollowed ground? Was it a babe, child, young or old? No indication could be found. Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay. We had been here once before On a day we'd all like to forget, But will remember forever more. Today we recorded for kith and kin The graves of ancestors past; To be treasured for generations hence, A record we hope will last. Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend, For stones sometimes crumble to dust And generations of folks yet to come Will be grateful for your trust. Thanks to letter writer Peter Schueler, Sr., for caring enough about abandoned and neglected cemeteries to include this in his letter. It's powerful. I am a new subscriber to the Pulaski County List. My name is E. Paul Morehouse, Jr. I am trying to locate the grave of one of my Revolutionary War Soldier ancestors - Rev. Edward KELLY(b VA? cir 1752 ? - d unk by 17 August 1834 when his will was probated in Russell Co., VA). I cannot locate a grave in Russell Co. SAR Grave registry says that he is buried in "Area Cemetery, Pulaski Co., GA." Cannot find that cemetery either. Two of Edward's sons settled in Pulaski Co., KY. They were: John Kelly who mar 1st Sarah BUSTER on 22 Aug 1805 in Pulaski Co., KY and 2nd Elizabeth WADDLE on 19 Jan 1824 also in Pulaski Co., KY, and Joseph Kelly( b 13 Feb 1779 VA - d cir 1822 in Pulaski Co., KY) mar on 10 Dec 1801 to Jane BUSTER in Russell Co., VA. Perhaps Jane and Sarah Buster were sisters. Does anyone have access to Pulaski Co., KY cemetery books who could do a look-up on Edward Kelly for me? Would be deeply grateful. Paul Morehouse
Greetings, I am connected to James Doolin who m. Belinda Smith. Belinda was the dau of William Smith and Delila Neal. All resided in Pulaski Co, KY before 1800. Any cousins out there??? ALSO, is Wilma Codgell (sp.) on this list or does anyone have her addr. I understand she wrote a book a few years ago and I need a copy.....any used ones for sale, if I can't find Wilma??? Thanks, Emily Doolin Aulicino
Hi all, Forgive me if you get more than one copy of this. I have two questions and a lookup request. I have allways been told that my great-grandmothers last name was DARCUS, just talked to a cusin who said her last name was SMITH saying that her mother first married a DARCUS then a GUFFY, and her death cert. has her mothers name as Darcus SMITH. Minda Lou DARCUS(SMITH) LAWSON was born 05 Jul 1890 in Clinton County, Kentucky and died 29 Sep 1942 she married Fred LAWSON born 06 Jan 1889 died 10 May 1966. They were married 02 Sep 1910 in Clinton Co., Kentucky. Question, is it possible for a woman to have the first name Darcus, and how common is it. I know that in the 1870 Pulaski County, Kentucky census book page 390 that there is a Thomas HIGGENBOTTOM with wife Darcus (UNKNOWN). So, there could be others? If anyone has the marriage books for Wayne, Pulaski, Clinton, Monroe or Barren for the years 1870 - 1900 please check for a bride with the first name DARCUS married to a SMITH, DARCUS or GUFFY. Last, if anyone has a clinton county 1900 or 1910 census book could you lookup the surname SMITH or DARCUS or GUFFY for with the following kids: Minda Lou, Willie, Sam, John, Douglas and Elix. I went to my library and the 1910 film was almost imposible to read. If I can return the favor I have the following books: 1850, 1870 census books, 1890 Taxpayers, marriage books one and two (covers 1799-1863) for Pulaski County, Kentucky. Thanks in advance, Jim Indianapolis
I am working on my husbands genealogy. His grandmother was Ida Belle Adams or Snow. I have seen both Adams and Snow on records for her. In 1900-Pulaski Co. KY census , Ida born ca.1889 and her brother James T born ca 1891 were living with their grandfather, Joel Marion Adams. Does anyone have any information on these Adams or Snows? ANY help would be greatly appreciated in trying to find out for sure what Ida's maiden name was. Ida married Benjamin Samuel Jackson. Linda Lohrum

I am doing Farmer, Modrell & McCord research--my current focus--in Pulaski County. Narrowing that down I am looking for any new information on Henry S. Farmer who died in 1840 along with Nancy McCord whom I believe that he married in 1805/Pulaski County. The marriage record shows the witness as Robert Modrell ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. A few weeks ago I was under the impression that a James Burton and Caty Baker, married in Pulaski in 1803, were in line to be my g.g.g.grandparents. Well, some other information has made it quite evident that James could not have been my g.g.grandfather, Joseph Richardson Burton's father. However, I did obtanin a copy of James and Caty's wedding certificate and from it found ;that her father's name was William Fox Moses Baker. I thought this was quite an interesting combination of names and since I am related to the Bakers, I thought I would post to see if anyone would have any knowledge of William Fox Moses Baker. I am also attempting now to link a John Burton and Elizabeth Locker married in Monticello to my g.g.grandfather, Joseph Richardson Burton. John and Elizabeth were married in 1810 and Joseph was born in 1815. James R Burton, who I think was Joseph's brother was born in 1812. The dates all fit--all I need is someone with the knowledge. Thanks so much for your help. Bob :)
