What was the title of that old 50's song "Why Is Everybody Always Picking On Me" I decided it was time to get the information on my fathers -mothers side of the family ,so I wrote my Dear 90 year old great aunt that I had not seen in years a real nice letter asking if she could give me a hand with names and dates. Well this morning I got my reply: Dear Storm, Was really happy to received your letter and agree that is has been way to long since we have seen each other ,I may make a few mistakes ,but think I can help you out with our family tree .Number one we should have never went by the name of HOBBS[alias] our real grandpa's name was O'BRIAN [alias] He came from Ireland, grandma was from Scotland, she was born on the ship on the way to America, she always told us she was a women with out a country her parents name was Alley but we never knew their given names. Grandpa O'Brian built his cabin and went to a town about a 150 miles away to earn some money, Dad was about 2 years old and aunt Lucy about four, while grandpa was gone Henry Hobbs moved in with grandma. When grandpa O'Brian returned Henry met him at the door with a shot gun.We kids always called it a "shot gun divorce" They never legally married and had five girls and two boys-the Hobbs grandpa died of consumption as did the five girls. Mother parents were Sydney and Martha Chase Grandpa Chase was English and grandma was Holland Dutch-mother told me grandma was raised on a southern plantation and was a cousin to Grover Cleveland so I was told. your aunt Mert had some information about the family but it had a lot of mistakes ,I have it but it isn't where I thought it was so will have to keep looking. Hope this information will be of help to you and have a Happy Holidays , Aunt------ Note 1.
