Does anyone know how I might go about tracing Lucinda Clay Native American ancestry? Lucinda was my 3rd great grandmother and the story goes that she was orphaned when her parents were killed or died during the Indian removal  about 1830-1831.  She was raised by Jane and James Clay as their own daughter and I keep hearing more and more stories about her life, for instance how Jane would hide her when the census taker came around for fear that she would be taken. I have a picture of Lucinda as an old woman and she is definitely Native American and I also have a picture of several of her grandchildren, one of which was my great grandmother and the features are very clearly that of Native American ancestry. I am not sure if James and Jane were in Pike or Floyd County when they took her in since they lived in both. Can anyone help me out? Anita
