You hear folks all the time claiming kin to Loretta, Patty, or Ricky....but I have never seen anyone kin to Dwight, so my interest is peeked. I decided to do some digging and there is so much conflicting information that I can not seem to find anything. One report says he is from Betsy Lane, another says he is from the same city as Patty Loveless, which I believe is Elkhorn and yet another says he lived near Loretta Lynn's childhood home. For those of us familiar with the area these are very different places. So here is what I could find. Dwight David Yoakam was born on October 23rd, 1956 in Pikeville, KY to Ruth Ann and David Yoakam. Shortly after he was born his family moved to Columbus, Ohio. I believe I read somewhere a mention of a sister, but not sure if there are other siblings. So my question is, has anyone worked this genealogy? If so would you be willing to share a little? I am just extremely curious and had always assume YOAKAM was a stage name, but I can not find anything that suggests anything other than his birth name. Was his family always in the Eastern Kentucky area before moving to Ohio? Dwight has always been one of my favorite artists, and recently my grandmother told me that my papaw who once owned Star Music Land in Johnson County, met Dwight and said "that boy is going to be a star" he died before he ever got to see it happen.
