Hi, I got a tip from a member that I should have listed some of my surnames that I was interested in for my visit to Pike Co., so here goes: My main lines of research are Hackney - Emzy Leonard, son of Andrew Jackson Hackney and Johnson - Isaac son of Martin Johnson. Emzy Hackney was a magistrate for many years in the early 1900's and I am hoping to get some details. Also, there are Thornburys (Thornsburys). I would like to get information along two veins - one is the factual details of the families (birth, death, marriage etc), but I would also like to find information to share with the descendants of this line that is more along the lines of "human interest" or family stories. The Hackneys at one time owned land from the KY/VA state line on both sides of the Levisa River including Big Hackney's Creek, Little Hackney's Creek, Flanery's Branch, Big Card and Little Card Creek. I have no idea where these places are yet, but I will be looking at maps before I go - Which brings me to an additional question - Is there a good place to call about maps of the area - both present day and older maps. One person has already recommended a small book (abt $10) called Place Names in Pike County, Kentucky. I really appreciate the support and suggestions that I am getting from this list. I am getting very excited about my visit even though it is about a month away. -- Susan Martucci jkdevl@earthlink.net
