I have just added my email address to the Pike County Rootsweb mailing list. This is my first message with the intent of informing those of you that are researching families in Pike County, Kentucky. The primary family that I am researching is the Marrs Family. Samuel W. Marrs and his wife Sarah Owens, settled in Floyd County (later to become Pike County) around 1816. One of the secondary families would be the Rice Spurlock Damron family. Rice Spurlock was the son of Spurlock Damron and Sarah Trout. He married Lucy Ann Picklesimer, April 3, 1872, Lawrence County, Kentucky. Rice Spurlock was born in Pike County, January 21, 1851. After his marriage, he moved back to Pike County where several of his children lived and married. My mother was the daughter of Harvey George Casebolt and Nancy Emeline Johnson. Nancy Emeline Johnson was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Johnson, Sr. and Malinda McCowan. For this reason, I am also researching the Johnson and McCowan families. I have very little information on Andrew Jackson Johnson, Sr. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia but I do not know who his parents were. Malinda McCowan was the daughter of Hugh McCowan and Rebecca Carter. This is a far as I go on this side of my family. I also have the Maynard, Drawdy, Ford, Weddington, May, Patton, Phillips and Owens families that are a part of my ancestry. Of course these are all in addition to my Picklesimer line. I have done an extensive amount of research on this line and have most of the information on them already. My only efforts there are in locating the descendants of Abraham Adam Picklesimer and his wife, Elizabeth Prater. Additionally, I am researching the descendants of David Picklesimer (reported to have been a brother to Abraham Adam) and his wife, Sarah Prater. Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Prater and Sarah the daughter of Archibald Prater. This family moved to Floyd County (later Johnson County) around 1809. Looking forward to working with each of you on the Pike County, Kentucky research mailing list. John W. Picklesimer
