On a marriage bond, when a sum is mentioned, is that a true amount required to be paid. For example, on a marriage bond from 1876, the following is stated: Be it Known, that we John H. Thornbury as principal, and William Rowe as surety, are jointly and severally bound to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the sum of One Hundred Dollars. How much did they really have to pay for the marriage bond. I saw another one that mentioned 100 pounds. I have the same question for that one. Does anyone know how that worked. -- Susan Martucci jkdevl@earthlink.net
