The bill would establish the Kentucky War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission and create a Commission to oversee the state's observance of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. Now that the legislation is in the House of Representatives, it will be assigned to a House Committee for consideration. The session is drawing to a close, today is the 22nd work day of the 30 day session. SB 197 - E. Tori AN ACT relating to the establishment of the Commonwealth of Kentucky War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. Create new sections of KRS Chapter 171 to establish and attach the Commonwealth of Kentucky War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission; attach the commission to the Kentucky Historical Society; assign membership and duties; sunset on December 31, 2015. SCS - Retain original provisions with technical corrections; establish a Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission to study and recommend ways to commemorate Kentucky's role in the Civil War; provide for membership and specify duties; provide that the commission shall expire in 2015.
