My great great grandmother, Mary Jane Sanders Martin was born in Pike County KY in 1853 to Wade H. Sanders and Hannah Potter Sanders. She died about 1898 in Pike KY as well. We've never been able to in down exactly how or where or when she died. Chuck Schwartz
Looking for a picture/photo JPeg or snail mail of a headstone for John Mack/MacKenna died circa 1819-1820 your area. Was spouse of Mary who died 1801 in the Boyd Co area of KY. If anyone can help me would be greatly appreciated. tried RAOGK but no volunteers in your area on RAOGK. Thanks so much for your help with this ancestor.
Does anyone know how I might go about tracing Lucinda Clay Native American ancestry? Lucinda was my 3rd great grandmother and the story goes that she was orphaned when her parents were killed or died during the Indian removal about 1830-1831. She was raised by Jane and James Clay as their own daughter and I keep hearing more and more stories about her life, for instance how Jane would hide her when the census taker came around for fear that she would be taken. I have a picture of Lucinda as an old woman and she is definitely Native American and I also have a picture of several of her grandchildren, one of which was my great grandmother and the features are very clearly that of Native American ancestry. I am not sure if James and Jane were in Pike or Floyd County when they took her in since they lived in both. Can anyone help me out? Anita

I am looking to dates of birth for Lucinda Clay and Blackburn Sturgell. If no one has dates, could they at least help me find their ages when they were married? They were married in Pike County on February 17, 1845. Thank you. Anita

You hear folks all the time claiming kin to Loretta, Patty, or Ricky....but I have never seen anyone kin to Dwight, so my interest is peeked. I decided to do some digging and there is so much conflicting information that I can not seem to find anything. One report says he is from Betsy Lane, another says he is from the same city as Patty Loveless, which I believe is Elkhorn and yet another says he lived near Loretta Lynn's childhood home. For those of us familiar with the area these are very different places. So here is what I could find. Dwight David Yoakam was born on October 23rd, 1956 in Pikeville, KY to Ruth Ann and David Yoakam. Shortly after he was born his family moved to Columbus, Ohio. I believe I read somewhere a mention of a sister, but not sure if there are other siblings. So my question is, has anyone worked this genealogy? If so would you be willing to share a little? I am just extremely curious and had always assume YOAKAM was a stage name, but I can not find anything that suggests anything other than his birth name. Was his family always in the Eastern Kentucky area before moving to Ohio? Dwight has always been one of my favorite artists, and recently my grandmother told me that my papaw who once owned Star Music Land in Johnson County, met Dwight and said "that boy is going to be a star" he died before he ever got to see it happen. Thanks everyone for helping ...I not only appreciate it ! I am in need of it ! I am leaning towards James Branham and Mary Ann Bartley, However, I have Mary Ann as being married to Henry? Is it possible that James could be James Henry ?? All the dates and ages match for the Henry I have. For Children of ; Mary Ann Bartley & Henry or James Henry? I show Revel Branham born 1860 and Katie Ann Branham 1861 in Wise Co. VA Amanda 1862 , Emery 1863 and Wesley 1864 Pike Co. KY Richard 1867 , William 1868 , Reave 1869 and Enoch 1872 Wise Co. VA. Then in 1875 *David* was born in Pike. VA>PIKE>VA>PIKE What I do know is that Dolly Milam was the daughter of Sarah A. Branham and George Luther Milam and that Sarah was born in Pike. ..I have proof of this( Dolly's Bible.) Dolly's sister was Alta & Alta's granddaughter has access to her Bible, entries are the same. Alta married Denver Robinson. Both Bibles state the girls parents as Sarah Branham and George Luther Milam . Dolly's Bible states, and her husband has verified, that Dolly's grandparents were David 1875 and Sarvilla Rose Branham b. abt. 1882. I do know that my David Branham was born in Pike, and that his wife was Sarvilla Rose. They wed December 10, 1897. Sarvilla is shown as a widow in 1910, 14 years after she and David wed. placing a death date for David at 35 years of age in 1910 . The family is found in Dickenson County VA, 1900, Dickenson County Virginia David born Jan. 1875 KY Unknown Unknown Savilla 17 yrs old (birth month and year listed as unknown) VA VA VA Sarah A. Sept. 1898 VA KY VA Alta M. Apr. 1900 VA KY VA 1910, Dickenson County, VA census shows; Soviller (may be Sourilla) F, 29 Widowed VA KY VA Sarah A. 11 VA VA VA Alta M. (daughter) 10 VA VA VA (listed as Alto?) William J. 7 VA VA VA Charly T. 2 VA VA VA Cora J. 2/12 VA VA VA I have and can find nothing on William,Charley,or Cora. If I can place my Milam's and my Branham's in the same place at the same time, I will know for sure that I have the right set of Branhams! Now was Henry ...James Henry or just Henry ? Who were the parents or siblings of George Luther Milam b.April 10, 1895 in TN and died 1977 (Probably Pike Co. ) Thanks Everyone! The Pikeville Public Library would be the best place to write for information on older obits. They have copies of the Pike County News on microfilm. This was the newspaper that preceded the Appalachian News Express. Best of luck to you! When looking for Francisco's, also remember to check surnames France, Frances, Francis, Sesco, Cisco, etc. In several cases, families were identified under these surname variations. 1850 Pike Co KY Census (HH # 644/646) Jacob Francisco * 60 * M * Farmer * VA Jane Francisco * 53 * F * VA Nancy Francisco * 39 * F * VA Synthia Francisco * 26 * F * VA George Francisco * 24 * M * Laborer * VA John Francisco * 23 * M * Laborer * VA Evans Francisco * 22 * M * Laborer * VA Franklin Francisco * 17 * M * Laborer * VA Rachel Francisco * 15 * F * VA Oscar Francisco * 13 * M * VA Patrick Francisco * 11 * M * VA Samuel Francisco * 9 * M * VA 1860 Pike Co KY Census (Dist. 1, HH # 660/648) Jacob Francisco * 73 * M * $300 * $50 * VA Jane Francisco * 65 * F * VA Nancy Francisco * 40 * F * VA Cyntha Francisco * 30 * F * VA Franklin Francisco * 25 * M * VA Parkes Francisco * 24 * M * VA Patrick Francisco * 22 * M * VA Rachel Francisco * 23 * F * VA Samuel Francisco * 17 * M * VA Elizabeth Francisco * 8 * F * VA Henry Francisco * 5 * M * VA In 1870, Patrick is living next door to (siblings?) I could not find a marriage record for Patrick and Sarah in KY or WV records. Birth records skip 1869, so also, no birth record for daughter Jane. 1870 Pike Co KY Census (Mouth of Pond Creek, HH # 164) Patrick Francisco * 25 * M * W * Farmer * VA Sarah Francisco * 24 * F * W * Keeping House * VA Jane Francisco * 1 * F * W * VA >From "Pike Co KY Deaths 1849 - 1909" by Hobbs & Picklesimer, Pg. 48: "Sarah Fransisco, 30 years, Married, Died: 1877, Birth Place: Kentucky, Parents: Curry, Father's Birth Place: Virginia, Mother's Birth Place: Virginia." 1880 Pike Co KY Census (Big Creek, HH # Patrick Francisco * W * M * 36 * Farmer * VA VA VA Jane Francisco * W * F * 12 * Daughter * KY VA VA Roxie H. Francisco/Curry connections (Laura Loding) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Wed, 7 May 2008 23:18:41 -0400 From: "Laura Loding" <[email protected]> Subject: [KYPIKE] Francisco/Curry connections To: <[email protected]>, <[email protected]>, <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" I have found the following information in Pike Co., KY, and I'm trying to figure out who these "Curry's" are. 1. There is a death record for a Sarah Francisco b. abt 1847 died 1877 who's parents are listed as Curry. I have not found a marriage record, however I do find a Sarah with Patrick Francisco and daughter Jane in the 1870 census. In 1880 Patrick and Jane are listed with no mother/wife. 2. I'm also trying to find the marriage record for Samuel Francisco 1 May 1870 Pike Co. KY. He is listed in the 1880 census with wife Phoebe. I am trying to determine her maiden name and parents. Thanks!
