Hi I am looking for a "THOMAS STRONG BRANCH of FROZEN CREEK somewhere in Pike Co., KY. A Thomas Strong may have been a Long Hunter in this area from Russell Co., VA. His desc. moved to KY in 1820's. In any please :-) Thanks Dave Strong
I thought with some new talk about Dotsons, I would post the following. I have a Jane Dotson, born 10 Feb. 1851, d. 2 Jul 1930. She married James Griffey. I'm told that her mother was a Slone. However, other relatives claim that Jane's name was Slone--not Dotson. Jane is buried along with her husband James and her daughter and her husband--James Keene and Elizabeth Griffith along with several Esteps. I have not yet determined the relationship of the Esteps to Jane Dotson/Slone. If anyone has information, please let me know. I have traced the Dotson line back to Jamestown--this is another line that I can't connect. The cemetery listing can be found on my personal web page listed below. Pike Co., KY Cemeteries Library of Jim W. Tackitt 1830 Johnson Dr. Concord, CA 94520 <jtackett@jps.net> Below are some of the cemeteries that have had headstone surveys [or partial listings] as located in various publications. This is by NO MEANS a complete listing of all the cemeteries in Pike Co. Sorry, I do not have time to do "lookups," but this list will help you on your way. However, if you can read a .rtf file, I'll be glad to send you a fully formatted file [same information, just looks better.]. If writing to me off the list, please include your full name and regular USPS address [and brief lineage data if seeking genealogy information] as I do not normally respond to email messages/queries that come to me as "anonymous." I recently returned from an 11 day stay in Pike Co. and one day I visited 13 cemeteries in the Myra, Beefhide, Jonancy area, most not on this list - plus several others in the Long Fork area . . . . and came back with 13 rolls of film. [July 1998]. In the past 20 years I guess I've visited well over 100 cemeteries in Pike & Floyd Co., and photographed most of the "old" stones I could find, as well as those I thought might have a connection to my own surname. [Have also visited numerous cemeteries in Johnson, Carter & Magoffin Counties, but that's another story.] CAUTION: The names of many of the older cemeteries may change every few years. The cemetery names are frequently noted by the name of the person currently living "at the bottom of the hill." As example, the large "Amil Little Cemetery" on Long Fork was previously known as the "Neil Little Cem." and before that it was designated as the "Wm. Buck Tackitt Cem." ______________ "Grapevine, Legend of the: Tribute to a Family and a Birthplace," by Danny E. Bevins 1994, No Address. "Pike Co. [KY] Cemetery Records." These Pike cemeteries are contained in various vols. of records published by Joe R. Skeens, 212 Sally Stephens Branch, Prestonsburg, KY 41653. As Mr. Skeens provides only a surname index [Vol. 5 has NO index], research in these vols. is time consuming as a "line by line" reading is required to find anyone. One is cautioned, too, that corrections & additions to previous vols. show up in later vols. of these cemetery records by Joe Skeens. I was asked to clarify who I am looking for. I am looking for old Dotsons. Also I am interested in Wolfords, Charles and Esteps. Thanks Jack Dotson
I am trying to figure out of there is a place where all those early settlers of Peter Creek are buried, since most of the graves I have found in that area are more recent (1910-present). There are many small graveyards all over and whenever Im out there, I dont have time to stop at all of them. Then, of course, there are many you never see up on the mountainsides buried under tree-cover. But, maybe some of you all know which ones are the really old ones and how to get there.
My father's father was Nathan Stiltner, his mother was Dollie Mullins. Dollie and Nathan were never married. My father (Ernest Mullins) was born at Mira, KY 1899. I am seeking information on Nathan Stiltner, Jr. and family of Nathan Stiltner, Sr, who was married to Jamima Allen.
Sandi- George Wheeler Dotson was a half-brother to my g-g-grandfather WILLIAM E. "BILLY ARNOLD" DOTSON. George came up from Johnson County, TN about the same time as WILLIAM E and his full brother, JORDAN "JERD" DOTSON. They were the sons of Rueban Dotson of Trade, TN and Sarah Greene Estep. He may have been a justice of the peace or a minister since in the marriage bonds for Pike County he is listed several times as performing the ceremony. He settled close to my group down near Paw paw. Somewhere I have the page from the library that shows the land description he got a grant of. I think his wife and WILLIAM E.'s second may have been sisters. Geoge was married to Catherine Baumgartner about the same time as William married Elizabeth Baumgartner. Hi, I am trying to find links between Epperson Rowe (probably born in Pike County in 1839) and his grandson Hobart McKinley Rowe [b 24 Sep 1896 d Jan 1963 (Pike County)].
