    2. In a message dated 98-09-19 22:29:09 EDT, you write: << Also, there are Thornburys (Thornsburys). >> Susan, Noted the surname THORNSBURY and it rang a bell! Meredith Collins was placed into guardenship of Richard P. Robinson by the Pike Co. Court 1838, listed as a "Poor Man". He didn't died til 1841. Richard P married a Thornsbury in Pike Co. I always wondered if there was a relationship between the Thornsbury/Robinson/Collins. If you find anything let me know. Boy I wish I was going with ya. Brenda

    3. Does anyone know the story of John Johnson who died during the Civil War. He was shot or hung by the Confederates. There are a couple of variations to the story. He was a civilian and about 16 at the time. Does anyone know of any battles or skirmishes fought in Eastern KY? I found a book on it at the LDS FHS in Salt Lake City. It told the story in detail. I found it close to closing time so couldn't copy it. Then when I went back could never find it again. Then the Center personell told me it was "misplaced" or in other words lost or stolen. When my info got destroyed, so did the name of the book. I am beginning to think I imagined it all. I do remember the book was written in the 1800's. Any Help would be appreciated. Grins, Kaye One never knows when one tiny piece will pull the puzzle together.

    3. In case anyone else was wondering.... Gwen answered my question in the following email: The book: Jeffrey C. Weaver, The Civil War in Buchanan and Wise Counties: Bushwhackers' Paradise (Lynchburg, VA: H. E. Howard, Inc., 1994) p. 243 says that Franklin Sloan served in Co. F1, 64th VA Inf. Confederate Army. 3. The network, computers and technical services that bring you these mailing lists is not FREE!! What I do isn't free. In fact, I pay a small fraction of the actual costs to participate with our list. The Rootsweb people whom I appreciate a lot have put lots of their own money into doing this. They don't make any money. *******Please read below and do what is right and fair.******* In August, use of RootsWeb grew on average about 15%. While we're more than pleased by our growth, it *is* forcing us to upgrade our servers and increase our bandwidth, which in turn severely strains our limited financial resources. If you'd like to help RootsWeb grow, please consider becoming a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor. Information on how to do that follows the statistics. Here are the detailed statistics on our August operations: o 3,078 independently-authored Websites are hosted by RootsWeb. o 57,294,189 total Web hits: - 15,545,371 were HTML pages. - 8,116,870 were cgi-bin database searches and such. - 33,435,089 were graphics (gifs, jpegs, etc). o 1,161,830 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library. o 4,186 independently-operated mailing lists are hosted by RootsWeb. o We shipped 103,079,174 pieces of e-mail to our mailing lists. o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles to hosts on three continents. o We shipped approximately 926,726,400,000 bytes in total (next month we may break 1 Terabyte!). RootsWeb remains supported primarily by our users -- your contributions keep us alive. Folks who would like to become a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor (the cost is very modest) are invited to visit: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html *** You can become a Member easily using your credit card and our new secure server. *** Support from the Internet genealogical community is *crucial* to RootsWeb's operation. The continuing growth in use has led to both our main Web server and our main list server being pretty much maxed out. Contributions that we can employ to upgrade our servers are essential for us to be able to continue bringing more genealogical Websites and mailing lists online. Also, we would like to publicly thank Palladium Interactive, publishers of the superb Ultimate Family Tree software, for their generous support of RootsWeb: http://www.palladium.net/ Thanks to everyone who participates in RootsWeb -- clearly folks are continuing to exchanging a great deal of information! -B Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O. 1. [KYPIKE-L] Tree Graphic Ideas - On Topic
    2. Susan Martucci
    3. Hi Everyone, I have heard from several subscribers that wish this topic had stayed on the list. I apologize for calling it off topic when so many others seem to be interested as well. I mistakenly thought that since is was general genealogy stuff that it wasn't appropriate for specific lists. I posted the request to three separate lists. I will send a summary of the ideas to each list if I continue to get them privately. If you have a website or software to recommend, please post it to the list. If you have a graphic you are willing to share with me, I would really appreciate a private posting with an attachment. Thanks to everyone for helping me put together something to show my relatives. -- Susan Martucci jkdevl@earthlink.net

    1. [KYPIKE-L] Family Tree Graphic - off topic
    2. Susan Martucci
    3. Hi Everyone, I am sorry to clutter the list with this request, but I am in a time crunch trying to get ready for our family reunion on Labor Day I am trying to print some reports to show the family members about our history. I would really like to print out a pretty 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with the ancestors of my g grandparents. I had in mind a flowing type of tree graphic where I could put in the names up the branches. I wanted something a litte prettier/dressier than the standard reports from FTM. I have searched the internet for a graphic program that would do this and found nothing. Now, I am searching for a tree graphic that I could customize myself and add the names and birthdates. Has anyone done this type of thing before? I would like to find a free graphic, but I will consider purchasing one as well. Can anyone point me to good websites? Please reply privately so that the lists don't get cluttered with off topic information. Thanks -- Susan Martucci jkdevl@earthlink.net
