He was a retired coal miner and a self-employed carpenter, and was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Underwood. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Dobson; mother Amanda W. Underwood; daughters Jessica Chandler and husband Matthew, and Tracy Dobson; sisters Lydia Combs, Barbara Underwood and Debbie Underwood; brothers Bob Underwood and Ken Underwood; grandchild Elaina Chandler; special aunts Elizabeth Williams and Oma Eldridge, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Tuesday, January 10, with services immediately following. Interment was at Adams-Lewis Cemetery in Viper. ************************************** Ricky White Ricky Dean White, 46, of Grapevine, departed this life on Saturday, January 7, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was born on June 8, 1965 to the late Charlie and Stella Sizemore White in Hazard, and was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law Aileen and Amanda White; sister Edna White; twin brother Michael Gene White; and brother-in-law Eli Neace. He is survived by his wife Samantha White; daughters Aileen Nicole White, Charla Michelle White and Eric Shane Hughes, and Jessica Lynn White, all of Grapevine. He is also survived by brothers Clyde White of Watts, Wilgus White of Grapevine, Roy White of Grapevine, Charles Darrell White of Grapevine and Harold White of Grapevine; sister Martha Gail Neace of Grapevine, along with one granddaughter, Brooklyn Shae Hughes, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at the Engle Walker Funeral Home Perry County Chapel on Morton Boulevard in Hazard, where the family will receive friends for visitation between the hour of 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral, with Emmit Campbell officiating. Burial will be at the White Family Cemetery at Grapevine. **************************************** D. Edward Sigmon Daniel Edward "Big Edd" Sigmon, Sr., 83, of Newton, NC, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at his residence. Born December 27, 1927 in Catawba Co., NC, he was the eldest son of the late George Andrew and Edna Ada Moretz Sigmon. He was a graduate of Newton-Conover High School and worked with his father in the grading and steel erection business. He served in the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He married Velma Hurley and they had five children before moving to Hazard, Ky. to join his brothers in the coal business. Upon retiring, he returned to Newton to purchase and restore the family farm. He raised championship Belgian horses and hosted several decades of steam engine and tractor shows. Ed was a charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Newton and through his life was an active member of the Optimist Club, Elks Club, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was an avid collector of antiques and Americana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Hurley Sigmon, a brother, Harold Alfred Sigmon and a grandson, Robert Lloyd Sigmon. Survivors include his children, Daniel Edward Sigmon, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Richmond, KY, George Andrew Sigmon, II and wife, Cindy of Irvine, KY, Laura Sigmon Parker and husband, Bill Jack of Newton, NC, Jo Sigmon Nidiffer and husband, Mark of Newton, NC and John Douglas Sigmon and wife, Kim of Newton, NC; 12 grandchildren, Daniel Sigmon, III., Tommy Sigmon, Jenna McCracken, Sarah Smith, Shannon Evans, Katie Berner, Aubrey Parker, Seth Parker, Christine Nidiffer, Lucas Sigmon, Ashley Nidiffer and Isaac Sigmon; 5 great grandchildren, M. J., Asher, Daniel IV, Eli and Olivia; siblings, James Andrew Sigmon, Charles Ernest Sigmon and Louise Sigmon Hunter; mother-in-law, Lena Hurley; and a host of family and friends. A service of remembrance was held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. The Sigmon family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton. ***************************************** Donna Gregory Donna Carol Gregory, 54, departed this life on Tuesday, January 3 at the Hazard hospice care center. She was born February 8, 1957 in Hazard, the daughter of the late Donald Banks and the late Alva Banks. She was a life-long resident of Perry County, a member of the Black Gold Committee, and a member of the Maple Street Church of God where she was Sunday School secretary, very active in the drama team, enjoyed the church plays, and was a member of the Church of God Ladies Ministry. She is survived by sons Vincent Lane Gregory and wife Natasha Michelle of Hazard and Arthur David Gregory of Hazard; grandson Rylan Jacob Gregory of Hazard; stepmother Irene Banks of Hazard; stepbrothers Mike Smith and wife Nancy, Randy Smith and wife Yvonne, and Terry Smith and wife Donna, all of Hazard, along with a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 6 at 7 p.m. at the Maple Street Church of God with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. ****************************************** Mary White Holland Mary White Holland, 37, died Monday, January 2 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the daughter of Clyde White and Melda Dobson White, and is also survived by her husband, Andrew Holland. She is survived by daughters Bonnie Annette White, Andrea Clyda Holland, and Mataya Carol Marie Holland; son John Jeffery Holland; sister Carolyn Sue McDaniels; brothers Jeffery Jim Dobson and Clyde Bradley White; in-laws Ed and Allene Miniard; special aunts Hattie York and Bonnie Dobson; sister-in-law Sherry Holland; and brother-in-law Shawn Miniard, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Wednesday, January 4. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert White.
