NEW ALBANY - Combs, Ewell A., 92, of New Albany, formerly of Elizabeth, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012. He was born February 4, 1920 in Viper, KY and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in Guadalcanal during World War II He was a retired cabinet maker with National Homes and a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katie Combs; sisters, Edith Clark, Pearl Noffsinger and Anna Lee Eaker and brother, Ray. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Hancock); children, Janet Campbell, Shirley Rice, Patricia Pangburn, Robert Combs and Christine Collins (Jim); 10 grandchildren: Allison Smith, Michael Pangburn, Jason Rice, Kimberly Mikesell, Kerri Kemper, Jennifer LaFollette, Justin, Aaron and Trent Combs and Barbara Collins; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2 - 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Elizabeth, preceded by visitation at the church from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Interment is at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. Parents were Robert Combs and Katie Brashear. Robert was the s/o Green P Combs and Susannah Combs.
