Found this on the KY Clay mail list. Wonder whcih Carlo Combs was his father. Carter Many of you know Cinda Byrd Deaton on the list. Her husband Gene took his place in Heaven on December 23, at 12:40am eastern time. Nancy Frost Moulton CARLOS GENE DEATON Born Jan. 24, 1937, in Perry County, Combs, KY. son of Carlo Combs and Martha Deaton Combs, youngest of two boys, He has an older brother named Charles. His parents divorced when he was small, so he was raised by his grandparents, Willie and Armine Deaton, and took their last name. His grandfather was his favorite person, being a coal miner working nights in the mines, Gene told how he would wait up for him, because he always brought him a candy bar or cake home in his lunch box. He has his carbide light worn on the miner's cap, a prized possession. These were some of the happiest times of his childhood. When he was nine his mother remarried Sterling Willoughby and brought him to Walnut Hills, Cincinnati to live with her. He married Katie Duncan and had a son, Carlos Eugene Deaton. They divorced, she died in 1973 of an automobile accident. He met and married Cindy Byrd April 2, 1962. They had four children, April, Lisa, Richard, and Brian. He leaves his wife, Cindy Deaton of Myrtle Beach, SC, Carlos Eugene Deaton of Lansdale, PA, April Larkin of Loveland, OH, Lisa Thompson of Reading, PA, Richard Deaton of Myrtle Beach, SC, Brian Deaton of Myrtle Beach, SC, and step-daughters Rhonda Bessett of The Villages, FL, and Angela Powell, Pigeon Forge, TN. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, Lena, Christopher, Amanda, Ryan, Natasha, Kassie, Erin, Johanna, Holly, Steven, Sydney and Briana, Les and Sendra. He has 2 Great-Grandsons, Dylan and Bryce. He helped raise Rhonda and Angela from infants. Rhonda told her Mom "if you had not told me, I would not have known he was not my father". His last 14 years were spent in Myrtle Beach, having to retire due to poor health in 1990, a place he called "Paradise" because he could fish year round from the pier. If he were to speak to us today he would be the first to tell us not to grieve, and that by our remembering him, he will truly never be gone. Servic will be at Cook Funeral Home in Brookville, Indiana on Main St. Tuesday at 10:00 am. Because of the bad weather in IN, we are having the service at the Funeral Home, and on to the Maple Grove Cemetery from there, which is about 1/2 mile.
