Garrett, 98, of Ross, Ohio, formerly of Hamilton, passed away Monday April 11. She was born in Perry County, the daughter of John Logan and Sally Ann (Noble) Campbell. She was educated in the Lost Creek Schools. In the early 1930's she married Elbert Garrett in Hazard. Laura was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by six children; George Edward (Helen) Garrett, Shirley (Mack) Pratt, Lena Faye Sebastian, Blanche (Wilgus) Collins, Ruth (Sid) Isaacs, and Sally (Tom) Collins; 32 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elbert in 1949, four sons, John Harrison, Roy Ray, Roger Eugene and Elbert Garrett; son-in-law Ray Jr. Sebastian and daughter-in-law Bernice Smith Garrett. Visitation will be at Charles C. Young Funeral Home 4032 Hamilton Cleves Rd. Saturday 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, Ohio. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Cincinnati for all of their care during her illness. www.charlesyoungfuneralhome.com ********************************************* Katherine Barber Katharine "Katie" Lucille Combs Barber died on Saturday, April 9 at Germantown Methodist Hospital after a short illness. She was born on December 5, 1914 in Midway, Ky., the daughter of Elbert Clay and Carrie Wigginton Combs. She had a twin sister, Eleanor Clay Combs, who died a few days after birth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley Reginald Barber, her son Arley Reginald Barber, Jr., her brother and sister-in-law along with many lifetime friends. She graduated from Ward-Belmont College in Nashville and she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority at the University of Kentucky. She lived in Hazard most of her life and came to Memphis five years ago to be closer to her daughter, Carole. Katie, as people from Hazard called her, had a lifelong love of music and spent hours playing the piano and organ until a few years ago when her hands were too arthritic for her to do so. She played dinner music on the organ at La Citadelle for 25 years. She was also an avid Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan until her death. Until death, she was an extremely outgoing "people person" and had a keen sense of humor. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Barber Smith and husband Philip of Memphis; daughter-in-law Cynthia Barber of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren Shannon Perry of Kilgore, Texas, Suzanne Perry Smith and husband Michael of Longview, Texas, Barry Barber of Bowling Green, Brian Barber and wife Cecilia of Arlington, Wa., Clay Barber and wife Melissa of Mt. Sterling and Carrie Barber Miller and husband Brent of Mt. Sterling; great-grandchildren Spencer and Tucker Smith; Whitney, Reagan and Abby Barber; Bianca, Ava and Christina Barber; and Jacob Hudson Miller. Arrangements were entrusted to High Point Funeral Home and Crematorium. *********************************************** Billy Ray Combs Billy Ray Combs, 66, of Bulan, died Sunday, April 10 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of Pearlie Combs and the late James Combs. He was also preceded in death by his brother, DC Combs, and three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Combs; daughters Teresa Lynn Ford and Jacqueline Combs; sons Jimmy Ray Combs and Billy Eugene Combs; sisters Jo Ray, Judy Combs, Lois Caudill and Pat Caudill; brothers Ray Combs, OK Combs, Junior Combs, Darrell Combs and Gary Combs, along with 11 grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 with Travis France officiating. Interment will be at Noble Cemetery in Chavies. ************************************************ Grace Castegnaro Grace Maurine Castegnaro, 89, of Bulan, passed away on Saturday, April 9 at her home. She was the daughter of the late P.J. McAlarnis and the late Grace E. McAlarnis. She graduated from Roanoke College and was a retired school teacher in the Perry County Schools. She was accepted to University of Virginia medical school, worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C., volunteered for Hazard ARH, served as board director for Hospice, a member of Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church and a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 64 years. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Peno" Castegnaro; sisters Nellie Armstrong, Virginia Basso and Josephine French; brother Eugene McAlarnis and brothers Dan and James McAlarnis. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Alice Jewel and special son-in-law Bruce, along with a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 at the Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Services will follow with Father Mike Chowning officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Hazard. ************************************************** Martha Ann Hagan Martha Ann Hagan, 70, of Batavia, Ohio, died Thursday, April 7. She is survived by her son, Randall Hagan, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brasher-Callahan Funeral Home of Viper. Funeral services will immediately follow with James Combs officiating. She was preceded in death by parents William C. and Matilda Mae Combs Couch; husband Roy Lumpkins, Jr.; son Bobby Lumpkins; brothers Billie Couch, Jr., Walter Couch, beloved twin brother Bobby Couch; sisters infant Arlene Couch, Mary Archer and Lucille Deaton; and son-in-law Bill Parker; She is survived by daughters Rose Owenby and Craig of Knoxville, Tn., Sandra Sue Parker of Cumberland Gap, Tn., Connie Sweet and Roger of Harrogate, Tn., Mary Cupp and Stewart, Madonna King and R.L., all of Sharps Chapel, Tn.; grandchildren Wesley Lumpkins, Dana Kaye Latham, Jesse Sweet, Scarlett Sweet, Glenna Cupp, John Parker, Amanda Parker, Christopher Gambrel, Beth Johnson and Courtney Gambrel; brothers Garland Couch of Cumberland, Ky., Roger Couch of Knoxville, Tn., Juanita Guerra of Hazard and Ida Mae Fletcher of Seattle, Wa. Graveside services were held on Thursday, April 7 in Irish Memorial Cemetery, Tazewell Tn. Pallbearers were R.L. King, Stewart Cupp, Roger Sweet, Jesse Sweet, Christopher Gambrel, John Parker, Wesley Lumpkins and Johnny Johnson. Visitation was held on Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. *************************************************** Clayton Caudill Clayton Caudill, 69, of Viper, died Thursday, April 7 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Henry Caudill and the late Millie Caudill, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Stella, and brothers Steve, Kermit and Foster. He is survived by his wife, Donna Caudill; daughter Amanda Brianne Perry and husband Rodney; sons Robert Clayton Caudill and wife Missy; sisters Rosa Lee and Aileen; brother Jack and grandchildren Chloe, Brayden and Nicolas. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. Services will follow with Mike Hall officiating. Interment will be at Campbell Cemetery in Viper. ****************************************************
