He was the husband of Margaret Hoskins and the son of Rose Hacker Hoskins Mattingly and the late Bige Hoskins. He is also survived by his children, Rosy Hoskins and Sarah Hoskins, both of London, Charles Hoskins of Keavy, Ky., Maggie Whitlatch of Corbin and Loretta Mills of Barbourville; siblings Vernon Hoskins of Stinnett, Carlos Hoskins of London, Ronald Mattingly and Mildred Slone, both of Hyden. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Mickey Lee Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Keavy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday. Born in Perry County, he was the son of the late Estill Combs and the late Aileen Daniels Combs, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Lee Combs. A lifelong resident of Perry County, he was a member of the Church of Christ and is survived by his brother, Wendell Combs of Bonnyman; sisters Vickie Deaton of Brownsfork, Wanda Deaton of Typo; Deborah Watts of Brownsfork and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, March 9 at the Watts-Lawson Cemetery with Donnie Oliver officiating. Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard was in charge of arrangements. ****************************************** Gillis Thacker Gillis Ray Thacker, 39, died on Saturday, March 5 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn. He was born in Perry County, the son of Madeline Tolson Fisher and the late Gillis Thacker. He was a lifelong resident of Perry County and enjoyed four-wheeling and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Christina Thacker of Hazard; mother and stepfather Madeline and Dale Fisher of Bear Branch; daughters Bridgett Thacker and Heather Thacker, both of Hazard; brothers Clinton Thacker, Jamie Daniels and Odel Thacker, all of Hazard; sisters Shirley Fields and Annie Hamblin, both of Hazard; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, March 9 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Merrill David Collins officiating. Burial followed in the Joe Fields Cemetery at Avawam. ****************************************** Ada Hoskins Ada Hoskins, 64, of Busy, died Monday, March 7. She was the daughter of the late Brooke Deaton and the late Edna Durbin Deaton, and was also preceded in death by her sister, Geneva Fugate, and brothers James, Earl, Elmer and Donnie Deaton. She is survived by her husband, Wade Hoskins; daughters Karen Adkins, Donna Miller, Melissa Hollon and Stacey Hoskins; sons Wade Hoskins and James Hoskins; sisters Helen and Juanita along with 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. Funeral services will begin at noon on Friday, March 11. Interment will be at Hoskins Cemetery in Big Willard. ******************************************* Dora Francis Dora Francis, 93, of Bonnyman, died Tuesday, March 8 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the daughter of the late Wilson Riley and the late Ollie Morris Riley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Francis and son Dillo Whitaker. She is survived by daughters Ollie Bailey, Wilson Jones and husband Charles and Donna Peterson and husband Jerry; sons Greg Francis and wife Kathy, John Whitaker and wife Georgia and Benny Whitaker and wife Mary; daughter-in-law Chelcie Whitaker and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10 with Rev. Merrill David Collins officiating. Interment will be at Francis Cemetery in Watts. ******************************************** Michael Wayne Combs Michael Wayne Combs, 54, of Hazard, died Sunday, March 6 at the Hazard ARH medical center. He was the son of the late Bert Combs and the late Helen Lowe Combs, and was also preceded in death by brothers Anthony Ray Combs and James Bert Combs. He is survived by his daughter, Selina Nicole Combs and fiancé Luther Jent; son Michael Steven Combs and wife Tara Leigh; fiancé Fanny Wooton; stepchildren Johnny Williams and Lynard Williams; sister Angela Louise Combs; brother Kenneth Dale Combs and three grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 at the Brownsfork Church of Christ. Funeral services will immediately follow with James and Donnie Oliver officiating. Interment will be at Scalem Cemetery in Yerkes. ********************************************** Barbara Campbell Barbara Alvis Stacy Campbell, 79, of Jeff, died Saturday, March 5 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the daughter of the late Warney Stacy and the late Flora Stacy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Campbell, Sr.; brothers James Rice and Clyde Rice and daughter Venus Nerissa Campbell. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Knight, and sons Clyde, James, Paul, Pearl, Charles, Steven, Robert and Mark Campbell. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard. Interment will be at Englewood Cemetery in Christopher. *********************************************** Jesse James Eversole Jesse James Eversole, 83, of Hazard, died Saturday, March 5 at the Hazard ARH medical center. He was a retired federal mine inspector employed by MSHA, and also a preacher at Avawam Church of Christ. He was the son of the late Joe Eversole and the late Isabelle Eversole, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Browning Eversole, as well as four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Norma Feltner; sons Ronnie, Joe, Doug, James and Ricky Eversole; sisters Martha Jackson, Virginia Henson and Irene Smith; brothers Joe Eversole and Harold Eversole, along with 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 7. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 with Felix Shepherd officiating. Interment will be at Jim Eversole Cemetery in Hazard. ************************************************ Magdalene Couch Deaton Magdalene Couch Deaton, 88, of Combs, died Sunday, March 6 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Shafter Couch, Sr. and the late Mona Plyman Couch. She was also preceded in death by her son, Luther Darrell Deaton, along with three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, Luther Deaton; daughter-in-law Alene Miller Deaton; granddaughter Darlene Deaton; sisters Jackie Couch Wooton and Carolyn Couch Williams; and special friends Thelma Sue and Eddie Emery. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. He was a salesman for Frito Lay and a member and board member of the Victory Assembly of God. He was the son of the late Dave Gayheart and the late Bonnie Mullins, and was also preceded in death by his grandfather, John Gayheart. He is survived by his wife, Gwenna Gayheart; sons Raymond Gayheart and Morris Gene Gayheart; sister Louise Diblazio; brother Anthony Gayheart and sister Elizabeth Lynch. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 4.
