He was born in Perry County, the son of the late John Surer and the late Martha Deaton Surer, and was also preceded in death by his brother, George Surer, and half-sister Thelma Watts. He was a a member of the Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his son, John Surer of Springfield, Ky.; daughter Deborah G. Surer Hurt of Nicholasville; sister Louise Surer of Hazard; special friend Juanita Hulette of Hazard; nieces Jewel Howard and Julie Wahlberg; one grandchild, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Curt Eversole officiating. The burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Hazard. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. ********************************************* Blanche Saylor Blanche Alene Saylor, 50, died Saturday, March 12 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was born in Hazard, the daughter of the late Alamander Fugate and the late Merlin Hurt Fugate. She enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and four wheeling. She is survived by her husband, Harold Alan Saylor of Typo; son Christopher Saylor of Typo; daughters Natasha Barnett of Hazard and Kimberly Saylor of Typo; brothers Dorris Fugate of Owenton, Ky. and Doyle Fugate of Magoffin County; sisters Alvonda Ronnebaum of Big Creek and Bethel Everidge of Hazard; granddaughter Brittany Miniard and with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 16 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Merrill David Collins officering. Burial followed in the Stoney Fork Cemetery at Delphia. ********************************************** Jasper Shepherd Jasper Shepherd, 90, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, March 15 at home. He was born in Perry County on October 20, 1920, the son of the late Caddy and Elizabeth (Lewis) Shepherd. He was the husband of Alma Carol Collins Shepherd, whom he married on January 7, 2008. He was a former coal miner having worked for the Peabody Company, and was a member of the United Mine Workers Union and the Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife; daughters Christine Baker and husband Ed of Mt. Vernon, Louise Merritt of Crab Orchard, Penny Scott and husband Eddie of Beaver Dam and Peggy Arthur and husband Dexter of Orlando; son Lawrence Shepherd and wife Janie of London, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Laurel Sizemore; first wife Louvernia Smith Shepherd; second wife Dolly Shepherd; third wife Hazel Salyers Shepherd; grandchildren Legina Sizemore and Kimberly Smith Bryant; brothers Matt, Bill, John and Marvin Shepherd; sisters Doonie, Selar, Eunice, Orlena, Delli and Laura. Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17. He was the son of the late Henry Riley and the late Chapel Kilburn Riley, and was also preceded in death by sisters Morine Sizemore and Mary Siller Riley, and brothers Fred Douglas Sizemore and Manuel Darrell Riley. He is survived by his daughter, Angie Michelle Turner Watkins Riley; son Henry Isaac Riley; sisters Almeda Napier, Wilma Riley, Donna Riley Bush and Genella Ross; brothers Lynwood "Woody" Riley, Ira "Roger Dale" Riley and Ricky Riley. She was also preceded in death by brothers Geno Bianchi and Leno Bianchinotti; sisters Zita Bianchi Fouts and Frances Cassinelli; and nephew Bobby Bianchi. She is survived by nephews Charles "Jitter" Fouts, Gene Porter Fouts, Charles Edwin Bianchi and Pete Cassinelli; niece Susan Fouts Melton; sister-in-law Jean Snyder Bianchi and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. A retired coal miner, he was the son of the late Ruben R. Villareal and Christine Cisneros Villareal. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Marie Turner Villareal and daughter Debra Rose Feltner. He is survived by daughters Linda Marie Reynolds, Elizabeth Karen Sizemore and Lora Johnson; brothers Raymond Villareal, David Villareal, Daniel Villareal and Martin Simonson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Jones; infant daughter Betty Sue Jones; and brothers Melvin, Clyde and Hygia Ritchie. She was a lifelong resident of Perry County and was a faithful member of the Twin Oaks Freewill Baptist Church at Pigeon Roost. She is survived by daughters Mildred Miller and husband Millard, Martha Jones and Dathy Hall, all of Lost Creek; brother Eddie Childers of Lunden, Wa.; sister-in-law Beulah Ritchie of Dwarf; six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
