    2. Hazard Herald Thursday, January 17, 2008 James Otti Gross James Otti Gross of Brookville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 7 in Brookville. At the time of his death, he was 87 years of age. He is survived by his widow, Florence Combs Gross of Brookville, his brother, Paul Gross of Miamisburg, Ohio; sisters-in-law Grazie K. Combs of Viper and Frances C. Cox of Silver Spring, Maryland, and his brother-in-law, Otto Kellian Combs of Connersville, Indiana, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family received friends from noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM on Monday, January 14, at the Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home in Viper. The burial was at the Than Brashear Cemetery in Viper. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home in Viper. ******************************* William Russell “Bill” Dorsey, Jr. William Russell “Bill” Dorsey, Jr. died on Wednesday, January 2, at the Hazard A.R.H. Medical Center. He was sixty-five years of age at the time of his death. He was born on July 7, 1942, in Alliance, the son of William R Dorsey, Sr. and Betty Louise Patterson Dorsey, now both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara A. Carpenter Dorsey, who died on October 14, 2000, his brother, Robert Gerald Dorsey, his sister, Barbara A. Francis as well as three infant siblings. A member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Beloit, he was devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. He was employed as a truck driver for Godsey Trucking in Hazard. Along with his wife, Phyllis Salyers Dorsey of Hazard, he is also survived by his children, William G., Troy A. and Roy E. Dorsey, all of Illinois, his daughter, Bettyjean and husband Kevin Droney of Jessup, Maryland; son Irvin O. and wife Katen Stiffler, Jr. of Homeworth; daughter Christine and husband Roger Huskins of Beloit; sons David and wife Dina Smith of Hawaii, Danny and wife Misty Smith of Lake Arthur, Louisiana; Tony and wife Tina Smith of Hazard and James Brewer, also of Hazard. His surviving sisters are Judy E. Dorsey, Betty L. and husband Dave Porter and Janet Me. And husband Rick Gindlesberger all of Alliance. His surviving brothers are David A. and wife Shirley Dorsey of Bethel, Ohio, Kenneth R. and wife Angie Dorsey of Houston, Texas and Dale R. and wife Cindy Dorsey of Alliance. He is also survived by his twenty-six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Friday evening, January 12, at the Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home in Sebring, Ohio, where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday morning with the Rev. All arrangements were handled by the Gedneta-Ruzek Funeral Home, 126 West Vermont Avenue, Sebring, Ohio. ************************** Don Tolbert Holliday Don Tolbert Holliday passed away on Thursday, January 3, in Coos Bay, Oregon. A private family service followed by inurnment in the Holliday Family Cemetery in Hazard will be held at a late date. Cremation rites were held in Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay. Mr. Holliday was born on May 6, 1942, in Hazard to Donald Holliday and Joyce Mullins. He moved to California as a young man, where he worked as an IBEW electrician, Local 302 in the Bay area until his retirement to Gold Beach, Oregon. He was a Seebee in the United States Navy and fought bravely in the Vietnam War. He was fond of his Kentucky roots and had plans on returning to the Hazard area in the future. He enjoyed wildlife, fishing and most importantly, family. He was a proud and loving father and will be missed by his son Michael. Along with his son, Michael Holliday of Atlanta, Georgia, he is also survived by his Aunt Stella, Aunt Velma, Aunt Betty Jo, cousin Deborah and many other relatives and friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 12440 N.E. Halsey Street, Portland, Oregon 97230. Arrangements were under the direction of the Coos Bay Chapel. **************************** Ronnie Fox Miller Ronnie Fox Miller of Chavies passed away on Thursday, January 10, at his residence. At the time of his death, he was fifty-eight years of age. The son of the late Courney and Mattie Stidham Miller, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Otis, Olan and Mack Miller. He is survived by his three sisters, Nannie Smith and Vonge McIntosh, both of Chavies and Becky Williams of Fairland, Indiana. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, he is also survived by his two brothers, Joe Miller of Chavies and Donnie Miller of Ary. The family received friends on Saturday evening, January 12, at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM with Rev. Pete Youmans officiating. Interment was at the Mud Lick Cemetery at Grapevine. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. **************************** Rev. Marion Estep Rev. Marion Estep of Chavies died on Friday, January 11, at Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Estep and his grandson, Eric Estep. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Estep, three daughters, Mary Elizabeth Engle of Dice, Nellie Marie McIntosh of Chavies and Evalee Turner of Altro; four sons, Farmer, Marion, Jr., Tommy and Taylor Estep, all residents of Chavies; two sisters and one brother, Nellie Mae Howard, Rosie Barrett and Seldon “ Poss” Estep, all residents of Chavies, sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The family received friends on Sunday evening, January 13, at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Monday morning at 11:00 AM with Larry Hatton, Chris Turner, Alfred Smith and Lonnie Brewer officiating. Interment was at the Estep Family Cemetery at Chavies. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. ******************************* Lillie Mae Huff Turner Mrs. Lillie Mae Huff Turner, who was born on May 23, 1926, departed this life on Thursday, January 10. She was 81 years of age at the time of her death. A native of Leslie County, she was the daughter of the late Joel and Polly Ann Morris Huff. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Bill Turner, one son, Joe Turner, two daughters, Ruth Brock and Debra Ann Turner as well as six brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Turner, who was a homemaker, was a member of the Wabaco Pentecostal Church of God, and she had been a living witness of the Pentecostal Holiness message for almost sixty years. Mrs. Turner’s survivors are her sons, Rev. Ned Turner and wife Rose of Hyden, Johnny Turner of Richmond and Rev. Kenneth Turner and wife Jenny of Loyal. Her surviving daughters are Magdaline Whicker of North Vernon, Indiana, Martha and husband Kirby Caudill of Pikeville, Nora and husband Hiram Fugate of Hazard and Pauline and husband Raymond Jenkins of Louisville. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation for Mrs. Turner was at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home on Friday evening, January 11. The funeral service was conducted on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Wabaco Pentecostal Church of God with the Rev. Buddy Turner, Rev. Lester Turner, Rev. Ned Turner, Rev. Ken Turner and Rev. Doug Turner officiating. The burial was at the Turner Cemetery at Allais Hollow in Hazard. Johnson, who was born on July 2, 1941, passed away on Wednesday, January 9. At the time of her death, she was sixty-six years of age. The Hazard native was the daughter of the late Arnold and Bessie Bryant Engle. She was a homemaker and had been a lifelong resident of Perry County. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers. She is survived by her fianc/, Tommy Williams of Hazard; her children, Jeffery Combs of Carthlidge, Indiana, Melissa Bowling and her fianc/, Tony Ayers of Bonnyman and Melinda Johnson of Hazard. Her surviving grandchildren are Jared, Rusty, Wesley, Amber and Nancy Faye, and her surviving great-grandchildren are Alex, Dylan, Blake and Karma. The family received friends on Friday evening, January 11, at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Logan Wayne Bowling officiating. The burial was at the Hall Family Cemetery at Viper. Along with his parents, he is survived by his sister, Makayla Sandlin and his brother, Christopher Scott Sandlin, his grandparents, Ruben Holland, Tina and Denny Hurt and Rose Sandlin and his great-grandmothers, Sally Holland and Rebecca Jean Campbell. The family received friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon, January 13, at the Lower Second Creek Church of God where the funeral service was conducted at 2:00 PM with Rev. Merrill David Collins officiating. Interment was at the Stidham Cemetery in Grapevine. At the time of his death, he was twenty-seven years of age. He was preceded in death by beloved family members John and Loretta Miller. Along with his mother, Carrie Walker, he is survived by his grandmother, Patsy Walker, three sisters, Karen Francis, Jane Napier and Diania Green along with two brothers, Jimmy and Johnny Miller. Also surviving are a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. The family received friends on Saturday morning, January 12, from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted at noon with Sammy Walker and Marvin Pugh officiating.
