Greetings, I apologize for the intrusion but I'm wondering if someone on the list might be able to help me. I'm currently working on researching the Clay and Perry Kentucky KY Smiths (descendants of Rev. Richard Smith and Nancy Alicia Combs). I've managed to locate a nice woman in Virginia who has generously volunteered to do a lookup or two about the origins of the Smiths at the Library of Virginia and I'm trying now to find an authority on this family who could give us a sense of what Virginia county records would be most beneficial to explore. It is suggested frequently in online citations that William Smith was the father of Rev Richard Smith (who went into Kentucky) and that the Smiths had come to east Virginia from England in the middle of the 18th century. This may well be true - I don't know - but none of these citations seem to be properly sourced and my volunteer friend needs somewhere more specific than "east Virginia" to explore.
