Dear Cousins, When I started doing family research in 1981, some of you like Jess Wilson had been at it for years. I did not know how to do research other than to ask all the old folks about their people. I got back a few generations on most lines and reached the end of their knowledge. I went to the library and checked out six books on how to do family research. I skimmed through them and went to work looking at census, magazines and family histories. I found a few cousins doing family research and called or wrote them. I couldn’t wait to get the mail everyday! I went back six months later and checked out the same books and have been trying to learn and "do it right" since then. One goal, still not reached, was to get each of my lines “back to the boat”. I used two success principles in my research. 1. Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise. 2. You have to “give to get”. I sent ever person I wrote a SASE and my chart and ask for help. I got hundreds of letters and packets filled with information on my ancestors. I still have every letter or piece of paper sent by all of those wonderful cousins and/or researchers. I am very grateful to them all. I have been on line doing research for almost 10 years. Being homebound most of the time, it has kept me sane and opened up genealogy resources and contacts that I may never have found or seen with out computers. I am still willing to share anything I have, as my health allows and I still need help. As long as I can do research, I want to extend my pedigree by sharing and correct all mistakes in my book, “Morris Fork, Kentucky”. I can’t write a lot but I can copy and paste most days. The following part of my chart is 1 of 8 that I am sending to the Breathitt, Clay, Perry and Owsley County researchers. Just delete repeats. Most people on these lists have one or more common lines with me. Some of this info is still in question and not proven.
