Hazard Herald Obituaries: Week of November 14, 2007 Marsha Lynette Eversole Couch Marsha Lynette Eversole Couch, the wife of Wendell Couch, died at her home, 308 Primrose Drive, Richmond, Kentucky, on Monday, November 5. At the time of her death, she was 36 years of age. Along with her husband, she is survived by her parents, Harold and Margaret Eversole, her daughter, Lori Beth Couch, her siblings, Angelia Denise Campbell, Jeffery Harold Eversole and Derrick Ryan Eversole. She is also survived by her niece, Courtney N. Campbell. The family received friends on Wednesday evening, November 7 at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Thursday afternoon with Halliburton W. Greer officiating. Interment followed at the Couch Family Cemetery in Avawam. The staff at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel was entrusted with all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Venters “Ben” Bowling Venters “Ben” Bowling of Slemp died on Tuesday, November 6 at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. The son of the late Bradley and Essie Ison Halcomb, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Rufus Halcomb and two sisters, Tina Cole and Wanda Higgins. Mr. Bowling was 67 years of age at the time of his death. His surviving brothers and sisters are Orkie Ison, Carsie Hibbard, Arnie Campbell, Rosie May, Evalee Bowling, Essie Eversole, Mary Ann Creech, Frank Bowling, Jasper Holcomb and Russell Holcomb. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family received friends on Wednesday evening, November 7 at Maggard Br others Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted at noon on Thursday with the Rev. Keith Creech officiating. Interment was at the Arch Holcomb Cemetery at Little Leatherwood. The staff at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Logan Dwayne Clemons Logan Dwayne Clemons, who was born in Hazard on October 11, 1974, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, November 6. The son of Urban Logan and Brenda Joyce Young Clemons, was a Deputy Sheriff for Letcher County, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Mason Lodge #689 in Hindman. Along with his parents, he is survived by aunts and uncles, Sandra and husband Harold Prater, Charlene and husband Lowell Creech, both of Clear Creek, Norma Lass of Chicago, Illinois, and his sister, Bridget Begley and her sons, Tyler Ray and Christopher Logan Begley, also residents of Clearcreek. Logan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Urban and Louise Freemanis, Clemons and Truman Haynes and Ayeth McLee Young. The family received friends on Friday evening, November 9 at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Hindman where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday morning with Don Pratt and other ministers officiating. Pallbears were Crandall Hurt, Kenny Terry, David Banks, Tim Moore, Scott Taylor and Justin Gayheart. All arrangements were under the direction of the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, Hindman. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ida Combs Ida Combs, a resident of Happy died on Friday, November 9 at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of her passing, she was 90 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Bradley and Ollie Combs. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren and a host of siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Brashear of Viper, her three sons, Cova Combs of Haddix, Quentin Combs of Lexington and Marlis Combs of Happy. Along with her four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, she is also survived by her sisters, Addie Mullins of Indiana and Maudell Combs of Rockcastle County, Kentucky. The family received friends on Monday, November 12 until the funeral hour at 1:00 PM, which was conducted at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home. Interment was at the Blackhawk Cemetery at Happy. Maggard Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thomas Holloway McIntosh Thomas Holloway McIntosh of Laurel Point Road, Buckhorn, passed away at his residence following a short illness on Saturday, November 10. He was 60 years of age at the time of his death. A native of Perry County, he was the son of Faye Sandlin McIntosh and the late Holloway McIntosh, born to them on December 16, 1946. Mr. McIntosh, who was a retired construction worker was a member of the D.A.V, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Baptist Church. Along with his mother, a resident of Buckhorn, he is survived by his two sons, Joshua McIntosh and Justin David McIntosh, his daughter, Valerie Lynn McIntosh, his three grandchildren, all residents of Hamilton, Ohio, and his brother, William T. Dixon of Hazard. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, November 13 at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home in Booneville where the funeral service will be conducted today, Wednesday, November 14 at 1:00 PM. Burial and Military Services will be at the Laurel Point Cemetery in Buckhorn. The member of the Airport Gardens Baptist Church, she was the daughter of Ballard and Mary Smith. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Bill and Jackie Hurt, three brothers, Carl, Evan and Arvie Smith as well as two sisters, Anna Ritchie and Ruth Cahill. She is survived by her four daughters, Janice and husband Dwight Gross of Hazel Green, Alabama, May Lou and husband Jim Roberts of New Port Richey, Florida, Carol and husband James Oney of Louisville and Linda and husband Glenn Carron of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Sally Hurt of Wheatland, Wyoming, her two sisters, Alma Buckner of Hazard and Jean Gillis of Daytona Beach, Florida, her sister-in-law, Lois Smith of Bonnyman and her brother, Don Smith of Lexington. She had nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Monday evening, November 12 at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Tuesday morning with Milburn Gross and Rev. James Hamblin officiating. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery in Hazard. He was 71 years of age at the time of passing. The son of the late Gabe and Anna Combs Napier, he was also preceded in death by one child, Claudine Napier. Mr. Napier is survived by his widow, Helen Johnson Napier, their two daughters, Darlene Howard of Hazard and Peggy S. McManus of Gainesville, Georgia, and their son, Leonard Napier of Clermont, Georgia. The grandfather of six and great-grandfather of four is also survived by his brothers, Ben Napier of Louisville and Dorse Napier of Dayton, Kentucky. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, November 13 at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM this afternoon, Wednesday, November 14 with James Cornett officiating. Interment will be at Red Hill Cemetery at Chavies.
