The Sentinel Echo June 30, 2004 Edward Whitaker Retired coal operator and farmer Edward WHITAKER, 71, of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004, in the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on August 16, 1932, in Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Luther and Jettie WOOTEN WHITAKER. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl WHITAKER. He was a retired coal operator and farmer, and a US Army Veterean of the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife Mary GAY WHITAKER, of Hazard, Kentucky, daughters, Kathy SHERMAN, of Hazard, Kentucky; Susan EDWARDS and husband Timothy, of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; and Edwina MAYHEW, of Hazard, Kentucky; three brothers, Elmer WHITAKER, of Lexington, Kentucky, Emmitt WHITAKER and Everette WHITAKER, both of Lily, Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Matthew, Destany, and Natalee EDWARDS; Cassidy MAYHEW, Joshua IBANEZ, Eddie SHERMAN and Travis SHERMAN; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alex EDWARDS and Peyton IBANEZ, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Edward WHITAKER will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Jack Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitaker Cemetery at East Bernstadt, Kentucky with military honors provided by the local chapter of the D.A.V. Pallbearers will be Timothy EDWARDS, Adam EDWARDS, Aaron EDWARDS, Matthew EDWARDS, Eddie SHERMAN, Joshua IBANEZ, Cassidy MAYHEW, and Travis SHERMAN.
