    2. Hazard Herald Obituaries: Week of October 17, 2007 Christine Wells Christine Wells, who was born May 9, 1960, passed away on Sunday, October 7 at the Hazard A.R.H. Medical Center. At the time of her death, she was 47 years of age. A native of Hazard, Mrs. Wells was the daughter of Howard Young and the late Loeva Church Young. She enjoyed taking care of the children at the Day Care, and she was a member of the Logwood Church of Christ. Along with her mother, she was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, John Lee Wells, Sr. and her sister, Patrina Young. Along with her father, she is survived by her husband, John Lee Wells, Jr. of Viper, their son, John Lee Wells III and fianc/ Jennifer Miller of Bonnyman, her mother-in-law, Corrine Wells of Viper and her brothers and sisters, Larry Young, Howard Young, Jr., Betty Johnson, Marilyn Pratt and Sebrena Goins, all of Viper, Mary Ritchie of Acworth, Georgia, and Anita Fritsch of Independence, Kentucky. Also surviving are a special neice, Amber Jade Goins and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Wells’ family received friends on Tuesday evening, October 9 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted at noon on Wednesday, October 10 with the Tim Shepherd officiating. The burial was at the Young Family Cemetery at Viper. Engle-Walker Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Robbie Crase Robbie Crase, who was born September 15, 1971, died on Monday, October 8 at the Hazard A.R.H. Medical Center. At the time of his death, he was 36 years of age. A native of Hazard and lifelong resident of Perry County, he was the son of Bogie and Linda Crase of Hardburly. He was employed by Frito Lay. Robbie attended The Hazard Christian Academy and was a member of The Bible Baptist Church where he served as Co-Youth Director for the Junior Church. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Leonard Crase and Carl Couch, his grandmother, Eva Couch and two nephews. Along with his parents, he is survived by his wife, Leslea Crase and their four year old daughter, Jessica Ann of Hardburly, his brother, Jamie Scott and wife Brandy Crase of Jerkes and his sister, Gwen Gouge and husband Calvin of Norton, Virginia, and his grandmother, Virginia Lee Crase of Hardburly. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Thursday evening, October 11 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home where a Memorial Service was conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday with Rev. Dean DeMaris and Pastor Richard Spencer officiating. Engle-Walker Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marvin Hamilton Marvin Hamilton, a resident of Viper and the husband of Ella Rea Caudill Hamilton died on Friday, October 12 at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of his death, he was 69 years of age. Mr. Hamilton was the son of the late Daniel and Artis Cornett Hamilton. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Hamilton. In addition to his widow, he is survived by his children, Teresa Fields, Everett Fields, Robert Fields and Brian Morton, all residents of Viper. His surviving siblings are Glenna Adams, Velta Farler, Eileen Hamilton, Rebecca Engle, Brenda Clontz, Darrell Hamilton, Bonell Hamilton, Wallace Hamilton and Daniel Scott Hamilton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family received friends on Saturday evening, October 13 at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home, East Main St., Hazard. The funeral service was conducted at noon on Sunday at the Upper Middle Fork Church of Christ, with Forrester Lewis officiating. Interment was at the Evans Cemetery at Viper. Maggard Brothers Funeral Home was entrusted with all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Clayburn Johnson Clayburn Johnson, the husband of Lorene Johnson and a resident of Vicco passed away on Wednesday, October 10 at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of his death, Mr. Johnson was 49 years of age. A minister for over twenty-seven years, he had served as Pastor of the Vicco Church of God for over the past ten years. He was also District Overseer of nine churches. He was the son of the late Roy and Dollie Stidham Johnson. Along with his widow, he is survived by his two sons, Jeremiah and Nehemiah Johnson; his siblings, Thelma and husband Joe Asher, Geraldine and husband Emil Gullett, Richard and wife Rosa Lee Johnson, Paul and wife Joyce Johnson, Roy and wife Elva Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Ricky and wife Decia Johnson and Ronnie and wife Beverly. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends, he is survived by his loving pet, Daisy. The family received friends on Saturday and Sunday evenings, October 13 and 14 at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. The funeral service was conducted at the church he had served, the Vicco Church of God, on Monday morning with Joe Asher, Nathaniel Fugate, Roy Johnson, Larry Smith and Brother Stevens and Jeremiah Johnson officiating. Interment was at the Miller Cemetery at Grapevine. The staff at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel was entrusted with all funeral arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bradley D. Hamblin Funeral services for Bradley D. Hamblin, 71 years of age, of Leawood Drive, Frankfort, Kentucky, on Monday afternoon, October 15 at the Crestwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Wallace Kent and Rev. Don Dilday officiating. The burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Mr. Hamblin died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 10 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center emergency room. A native of Perry County, he was a civil engineer with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. He attended Buckhorn School, Cumberland College and the University of Kentucky. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Crestwood Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a deacon and the Sunday School Director and was a member of the East Frankfort Kiwanis Club. He was the son of Green and Edna Jones Hamblin. Survivors include his wife, Julia C. Hamblin of Frankfort, his daughter, Julia and husband Greg Moore of Frankfort; his two sons, Dale and wife Dena Hamblin of Frankfort and Doug and wife Kim Hamblin of Henderson. His surviving siblings are is sister, Kary Norman of Pensacola, Florida, Bruce Hamblin of Ohio, Baxter Hamblin of Seymore, Indiana, Gayle Hamblin of Pensacola, Florida and Warren Hamblin of Ohio. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dustin Hamblin, Austin Farmer, Darren Moore, Drew Dilday, Gary Culbertson and Chad Lee. Honorary bearers were Deacons of the Crestwood Baptist Church. Visitation was Sunday afternoon at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home and before the funeral service on Monday at the Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Crestwood Baptist Church in memory of Bradley Hamblin. LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home of Frankfort was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kourtney Mesha Gross Kourtney Mesha Gross, who was born on February 12, 1995, in Hazard departed this life on Wednesday, October 10 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. The child was 12 years of age at the time of her passing. She was a 7th grader at A.B.Combs Elementary School, and she enjoyed many things, such as playing the guitar, running cross-country, soccer, hiking, swimming, horses and dirt bike riding. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Floyd Gross, Jr. and Harold Dean Sellers. She is survived by her parents, David and Margaret Sellers Gross, her grandparents; Minta L. Gross and Johnnie Faye and Marion Sumner, all residents of Hazard, and her siblings, David Tyler Gross, Brittany Nicole Combs and Emily Marie Gross, all of Hazard and Brandon Paul Pelphery of Louisville. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. The family received friends on Saturday evening, October 13 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. The burial took place at the Resthaven Cemetery at Jeff. Engle-Walker Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chester Joseph, Sr. Chester Joseph, Sr., a retired coal miner, passed away on Friday, October 12 at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. Mr. Joseph, a resident of Happy was 88 years of age at the time of his death. He was the son of Siney Adams and Reason Joseph. He was also preceded in death by his son Jimmy, two daughters, Mary Dileonardo and Ethel Adams and six of his siblings. Mr. Joseph is survived by his widow, Allie Sizemore Joseph, his daughter Betty Ann and husband Tom Kotowski of Cape Coral, Florida, his son, Chester, Jr. and wife Pat of Nortonville, Kentucky, his sister, Viola and husband Cornelius Cornett and his brother, Lawrence Joseph, a resident of Viper. Mr. Joseph was grandfather to fourteen and great-grandfather to twenty-one. The Joseph family received friends on Sunday evening, October 14 at Maggard’ s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Monday morning with Willard Akers and J.T. Eversole officiating. Interment was at the Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Hazard. The staff at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel was entrusted with all funeral arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ruth Sims Guinn Ruth Sims Guinn, who was born at Allais on August 3, 1935 and a former resident of Walkertown, died on Thursday, October 11. She was the daughter of Ernest and Esther Sims. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Guinn, her brothers, Al, Ernest, Gordon, Glen and Denver and her sisters, Lois, Elsie and Kay. She is survived by her sons, Gary and wife Maybell Stollings, Larry and wife Margie Stollings and Bennie and wife Cindy Stollings. The grandmother of four and great-grandmother of two is also survived by her step-sons, Gary Guinn, Bobby Allen Guinn and Jimmy Guinn and her step-daughters, Kathy Howard and Jeannie Wilson. The funeral service for Mrs. Guinn was conducted on Sunday afternoon, October 14 at the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, Kentucky. Rev. Tim Adcock conducted the service. The burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery, also located in Central City.
