    3. Linda & Donna, Yep, it's definitely a soap opera.........LOL Since 1997, Pension records have become my bedtime reading material. A lot of them are boring and will put you to sleep in a heartbeat. But on occasions, I do run across one that will keep you in suspense. Below is the information that I have to go on in order to try and sort out the children of John R. BEGLEY. . . Deposition by Catherine BEGLEY, Traveller's Rest, Owsley County, Kentucky - dated September 17, 1903 Catherine BEGLEY stated, "I am 65 years of age; my post office address is Traveller's Rest, Owsley County, Kentucky. I am the widow of the late John R. BEGLEY, who served as a member of Company G, 47th Kentucky Infantry, War of the Rebellion and who received an honorable discharge and was pensioned for disabilities received in the service and line of his duty while a member of said company and who died on the 23rd day of February 1892 as a result of said disabilities received in the service and for which pensioned. . . . I was married to John R. BEGLEY on the 22nd day of May 1867 at Traveller's Rest by the Rev. George W. MILLER. I had not been previously married but my husband, John R. BEGLEY, had been married to Betsy EVERSOLE and divorced from her . . . I was well acquainted with said Betsy EVERSOLE and knew her after she was divorced and married to Jerry FIELDS. They then lived on what was called Squabble Creek in Clay County, Kentucky. Both she and her husband are now dead. After he was divorced from Betsy EVERSOLE he lived with Lucy EVERSOLE for a while prior to his and my marriage but they were never married . . . She moved to the Indian Territory about fifteen years ago and died while there. Hiram BEGLEY, who had married her daughter, Rindy, wrote to his brother, Joab BEGLEY . . . He lives in Laurel County, Kentucky. . . . Hezekiah CREECH, who lives near Booneville, Kentucky, went with me when I visited Joab BEGLEY. . . Three children were born of my husband's marriage to Betsy EVERSOLE, Jane, Martha, and a little boy whose name I cannot recall but he died when he was a boy. I do not know where either of them now live. I heard from Martha seven or eight years and she was then living in the Middle Fork country in Hazard, Kentucky . . . Two children were born to my husband by Lucy EVERSOLE, viz. Rindy and Marcus. Marcus lived with his father an my self until he was about twenty six years of age when he died. Rindy married Hiram BEGLEY as above stated. . . It was one of Hiram BEGLEY's children that wrote about Lucy EVERSOLE's death. In the letter above mentioned it was stated that Hiram BEGLEY, his wife Rindy and mother in law Lucy EVERSOLE were all dead. Edward GAY and Abel JOHNSON both of Gays Creek, Perry County, Kentucky were well acquainted with my husband at the time he was living with Lucy EVERSOLE and know that they were never married but that they just lived together. Ten children were born to me and my husband, John R. BEGLEY, as follows: Alfred, Elizabeth, Nancy, Susan, Mary, Elijah, Orlena, Tennessee, and Rachel. Rachel my youngest child and my first born a little boy are dead. The boy died before he was named. . . Tennessee and Orlena are the youngest and are both married. . . " (NOTE: The deposition was taken prior to finding out that Lucy EVERSOLE was still alive, married, and residing in Arkansas!) According to the deposition above, Catherine stated that John R. BEGLEY and Betsy EVERSOLE had the following three children: Martha BEGLEY Jane BEGLEY A Little Boy BEGLEY, who died young In the 1850 Census, John BEGLEY is residing in Perry County and listed as follows: 1850 Perry County, Kentucky Census, District 1 (H) 87/95 BEGLEY, John, 36, F (?), Farmer, 100, KY, cannot read or write . . . Jane, 15, F, KY . . . Abijah, 13, M, KY . . . Bradford, 10, M, KY . . . Adella, 4, F, KY . . . Lafeyatt, 1, M, KY In researching online at Rootsweb WorldConnect, there are a couple of researchers who state that Abijah BEGLEY, listed above under the household of John BEGLEY, died on December 4, 1853 in Perry County, Kentucky. This would coincide with the deposition above and place Abijah BEGLEY as the little boy of John R. BEGLEY and Betsy EVERSOLE who died as a boy as stated by Catherine BEGLEY in the deposition above. Based on the 1850 Census and the date of death for Abijah BEGLEY, he died approximately at the age of 16. So based on the above information, so far, we have the following: John R. BEGLEY married Betsy EVERSOLE children: Martha, Jane, and Abijah John R. BEGLEY and Lucy EVERSOLE children: Rindy and Marcus John R. BEGLEY and Catherine SANDLIN children: Unnamed Boy BEGLEY, Alfred, Elizabeth, Nancy, Susan, Mary, Elijah, Orlena, Tennessee, and Rachel Hope this helps. More later ...........
