Linda & Dona, Funny that this couple should pop in here at this time........ Since the kids are now back in school, I was doing a little house cleaning on my files and ran across the Civil War pension for John R. BEGLEY. In reviewing the pension record over the last day or so, here is what was stated: John R. BEGLEY first married Betsy EVERSOLE and they divorced abt. 1846. John and Betsy had Jane BEGLEY, Martha BEGLEY, and a little boy who died at a young age. After they divorced, Betsy married Jerry FIELDS and resided in Clay County, Ky. Second, John had a relationship with Betsy WARD and had at least one son named Layfayette. Betsy died before 1850. From here on out it gets a little confusing........<grin> Third, John was supposed to have been married to Lucy EVERSOLE, sister to Henderson EVERSOLE and a cousin to Betsy EVERSOLE, who was John's first wife who later married Jerry FIELDS. John and Lucy were married by Thomas MURRELL in Perry County. However, there is no record of a marriage license. Thomas MURRELL was a minister of the Gospel for two churches and had a bad reputation. He was later ousted by the church. The neighborhood thought that Thomas performed a "MOCK" ceremony for John and Lucy and there were some who did not believe they were married. John and Lucy had two children: Marinda "Rindy" BEGLEY and Marcus BEGLEY. According to the pension record, John left Lucy because she left a small child of Betsy WARD's too close to the fire unattended. The child's clothes caught fire and he burned to death. Lucy's daughter, Marinda "Rindy" married Hiram BEGLEY. Lucy, Hiram, and Rindy moved to Indian Territory abt. 1887. Lucy married a man by the name of KISSINGER about 1900 and was residing in Arkansas. Marcus lived with Catherine SANDLIN and his father, John BEGLEY up until he died at the age of 26. Fourth, John married Catherine "Kate" SANDLIN.......here we go again.........<grin> Apparently, the marriage ceremony of John and Lucy was enough to convince John that it was for real. After he left Lucy, John took up with Catherine SANDLIN and resided in Owsley County, Kentucky. John and Catherine were brought up on charges of Adultry in Owsley County, Kentucky, however the charges were thrown out of court. John must have believed that his marriage to Lucy was real, because he files for divorce in Perry County, but it was dismissed or thrown out. With no record of marriage and no divorce, he then marries Catherine SANDLIN in Owsley County. John and Catherine had the following children: a little boy who died before it was named, Alfred, Elizabeth, Nancy, Susan, Mary, Elijah, Orlena, Tennessee, and Rachel, who died young. Some people also mentioned in the pension record are Henderson EVERSOLE, brother of Lucy; Joe EVERSOLE, father of Henderson and Lucy; Joab BEGLEY, brother to Hiram BEGLEY; Swimfield BEGLEY, brother to John R. BEGLEY.......and more.......... I am still in the process of reviewing the pension record. The record is over 200 pages and it has my head spinning......<grin> So far it does not mention, Judy DAVIDSON or Elizabeth COMBS.
