Hazard Herald Obituaries Wednesday, Dec 05, 2007 Mabel Crutcher Mrs. Mabel Crutcher, a native of Whitewood, Virginia, departed this life on Tuesday, November 27, at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. At the time of her death, Mrs. Crutcher was 91 years of age. A retired elementary school cook, she was affiliated with the Church of God. A grandmother who enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, she also enjoyed watching U of K basketball games as well as the baseball games during the World Series. The widow of Hershal Crutcher, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Venus Bray Durham. Mrs. Crutcher is survived by her son, Ronnie Lee Crutcher and wife Ann of Louisville, her daughter, Paulette Crutcher and her sister, Ruby Brashear, both residents of Viper. Along with a host of other relatives and friends, she is also survived by her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends were received on Wednesday morning, November 28, until the funeral hour at 1:00 PM at the Engle-Walker Perry County Chapel. Rev. Jeffrey Scott Coots and Rev. Donnie L. Coots officiated at the funeral service. The burial was at the Lone Pine Baptist Church Cemetery at Viper. The staff at the Engle-Walker Perry County Chapel was entrusted with all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rowena Carolyn Brashear Rowena Carolyn Brashear, who was born in Lothair on May 17, 1925, passed away at her home in St. Charles, Missouri, with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 28. The daughter of the late John Smith and Irene Alice Selvia, she was also preceded in death by her step-father, Paul Hubert Selvia. The wife of Jack K. Brashear, whom she married on December 21, 1947, in Hazard, she is also survived by her two daughters, MiMi and husband Harvey Ziegler and Robin and husband Jim Lund Coleman. She was the grandmother of Joseph and wife Trish Black, Judson and wife Becca Coleman, Jordan Coleman, Rowena and husband Alex Murphy and Jennah Coleman and the step grandmother to Jason, Paul and Eric Ziegler. Visitation was held at the Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles, Missouri, on Thursday evening, November 29. The funeral service was conducted at the Woodlawn Chapel Presbyterian Church, 16520 Clayton Road, Wildwood, Missouri 63011 on Friday morning. Interment was at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. Brashear, who was a homemaker was also active in her church. She was one of the founders of the church’s Mothers’ Day Out Program, and she also taught Sunday School and was involved in the church’s Women’s Ministry Program The family suggests that memorials for Mrs. Brashear be made to the Alzheimer ’s Association or the Humane Society of Missouri.. All arrangements were handled by the Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Missouri. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary Lou Butcher Mary Lou Grigsby Butcher was killed in an automobile accident in Scott County, Kentucky, on Wednesday, November 28. Mrs. Butcher, a resident of Dayton, Ohio, was on her way to her native Perry County when the accident occurred. The plans were for her to visit here and then join other family members for their annual get together in Gatlinburg where they enjoyed each other’s company and started their holidays celebration. Mrs. Butcher, who grew up in Lost Creek was the daughter of Alton B. and Vista Miller Grigsby. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Butcher who was a distant relative of Loretta Lynn, her aunts, Wilma Robinson and Ann Miller, her uncle, Ollie Miller and two brothers-in-law, Balis Campbell and Joe Davis. Mrs. Butcher is survived by her son, Marcus Dwayne and wife Malinda Butcher of Dayton, Ohio, her two sisters, Edith Campbell and Sue Davis, both residents of Hazard, and her brother, Fred and wife Martha Grigsby of Macon, Georgia. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Butcher had recently been honored for her efforts in getting the Ombudsman’s Office for the Dayton, Ohio, area up and running. She was also an OSHIP Counselor. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, December 1, at the Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio. The burial was at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. At the time of his death, he was 72 years of age. He was the son of the late Tom and Lillie Raleigh Johnson. He is survived by his four daughters and one son, Bonnie Jean Johnson, Judy Hall, Sharon Yager, Jeanna Johnson and Jackie Johnson, all residents of the state of Ohio as well as his siblings, Mary Jo Bryant of Hazard, Ethel Gibson of Grundy, Virginia and Leon Johnson of Lafollette, Tennessee. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family received friends before the funeral service which was conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 1 at the Maggard Brothers Chapel with the Rev. Fred S. Ballard officiating. Interment was at the Englewood Cemetery. At the time of his death, he was 60 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Elizabeth Spencer Campbell as well as one grandson, Dylan Campbell. Mr. Campbell, a native of Perry County was employed by Whitaker Coal Company until they closed their local operation. From there, he joined the staff at the Perry County Sheriff’s Department from which he retired two years ago. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hoskins Campbell of Stormking, their children, Jennifer and husband Arnie Campbell of Christopher, Stephanie and husband Robert Walters of Stormking, James Paul and wife Becky Campbell Cornettsville and Jason and wife Janell Campbell Stormking. The grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of one is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Barker of Richwood, Kentucky and his brother, Brown Campbell, Jr., a resident of Louisville, Tennessee. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, December 4 at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the service will be conducted this afternoon, Wednesday at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Jackie Whitaker and Rev. Merrill Campbell officiating. Mr. Cole retired from the Ford Motor Company after thirty-five years with the auto company. Mr. Cole was the son of the late Charlie and Polly Turner Cole, who were residents of the Altro community. Mr. Cole is survived by his widow, Naomi Gibson Cole and their children, Felecia and husband Benny Abner of Buckhorn, Edwina and husband Brandon Caywood of Tecumseh, Michigan, Teina and husband Vern LaBean, also of Tecumseh and Dwayne and wife Angela Cole of Tipton Michigan. The grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of four is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Margie and husband Jack Loniker of Franklin, Ohio, Gloria and husband Orville Holtz of Newport News, Florida, Shirley and husband William Bottoms of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mildred and husband Eugene Moore of West Branch, Michigan, Abe Cole and wife Betty of Altro, Charles Cole of Westland, Michigan and David Cole and wife Penny of West Branch, Michigan. The family received friends last night, Tuesday, December 4, at the Johnson United Baptist Church where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM today, Wednesday, December 5, with the Rev. Elmo Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the Amis Cemetery in Buckhorn.
