    2. Hazard Herald Obituaries: Week of December 19, 2007 Dorotha Marie Lay Harvey Dorotha Marie Lay Harvey passed away at her home in Bulan on Sunday, December 16. The widow of Kara Davis Harvey, she was 81 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Harvey was also preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mary Hammors Lay, her brother Harold Lloyd Lay and her sister, Mary Ellen Lay Savage. She is survived by her children, Mary Alice Campbell, Lorraine H. and husband Ritchie Collins, Deborah K. and husband Lynn Short, Donna H. and husband Ricky Fugate, Lloyd D. and wife Lisa Harvey, Harold D. and wife Andra Harvey and Kara Douglas Harvey. The grandmother of twelve and great-grandmother of seven is also survived by her three sisters, Mattie Zoe Fletcher, Julia Pauline Taylor and Lois Ruth Brewer Martin as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, December 18, at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted at 11:00 AM today, Wednesday, December 19, with the Rev. Daryl Jessie and Rev. Paul Wegner officiating. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard Brothers Funeral Home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rosa Collins Combs Rosa Collins Combs of Bulan passed away on Saturday, December 15, at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of her death, she was 84 years of age. The widow of the late William Combs, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marth Spurlock Collins. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends were received on Monday evening, December 17, at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel where the funeral service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Karen Campbell and Rev. Chad Keathley officiating. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peggy Colwell Peggy Colwell of Clay City died on Thursday, December 13, at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester. The resident of Clay City was 44 years of age at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her mother, Birtha Collins. Ms. Colwell is survived by her children, Crystal and husband Johnny North Wooton and Jessica and husband Jerry Engle, all of Busy, Peggy and husband Justin Watts of Hyden, Whitney Patterson of Hazard and Willard Colwell of Dice. Along with her eight grandchildren, she is survived by a beloved friend, Gary Fugate. The family received friends on Monday evening, December 17, at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Busy Pentecostal Church of God with Minor Feltner officiating. Interment was at the Campbell Cemetery at Busy. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Donald Ray Sexton Donald Ray Sexton passed away at his home in Hazard on Thursday, December 13. At the time of his death, he was 60 years of age. He was the son of the late Billy and Ardella Sexton. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Mills of Texas and his son, Donny Sexton of Hazard. Along with his grandchildren, Dalton Sexton, Zoey and Lexi Mills, he is survived by his siblings, Connie Cornett and Abbie Gail Combs, both of Upper Second Creek, Delilah Smith of Lotts Creek and Jerry Sexton of Hazard. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. The family received friends on Friday evening, December 14, at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday morning with the Rev. Densmore Goodson officiating. Interment was at the Combs Cemetery in Upper Second Creek. The staff at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home was entrusted with all arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary Rebecca Jones Lewis Mary Rebecca Jones Lewis a resident of 66 Lewis Drive, Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Mrs. Lewis was born to the late Terry Allen and Kathryn Elizabeth Borders Jones on April 15, 1930. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lewis, whom she married on September 30, 1947, and by two brothers, Dr. Henry Allen Jones and Toy Douglas Jones. Mrs. Jones, who was a retired business woman and a court reporter is survived by her children, Mary Lou Chandler and Anne Lewis, both of Paintsville, Jenny Lewis of Deane, Kentucky, and Lisa Conley of Silver Spring, Maryland. Along with her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, she is also survived by on brother, Dr. John Oliver Jones of Russell, Kentucky. The family received friends on Friday evening, December 14, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, 807 South Mayor Trail, Paintsville, where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday afternoon. The place of disposition was the Porter Cemetery, Prestonsburg. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ John “J.P.” Philip Pratt John “J.P.” Philip Pratt died on Wednesday, December 12, at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. At the time of his passing, he was 80 years of age. The son of the late Hiram and Abbie Hall Pratt, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hassell and Louie Pratt. Mr. Pratt is survived by his widow, Pina Pratt, his children; Deborah and husband Johnny Farler, Denise Pratt, Deirdre and husband Raymond White, John L. and wife Glenna Pratt, Earl D. and wife Tanya Pratt, Joey and wife Brenda Pratt and Deon S. and wife Allison Pratt. His surviving siblings are Georgia Eversole, Carroll and husband David Combs, Mary Ruth and husband Bill Riley, Kathleen Hall, Clyde and wife Brenda Pratt and Eugene and wife Juanita Pratt. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Arnold Branson, Jr. officiating. D.A.V. Rites were conducted by Chapter 64, D.A.V. Interment was at the W.H. Caudill Cemetery in Viper. She was the widow of Birchel “Monk” Estep. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mollie Watts Noble. She is survived by her children, Jean and husband John Fields of Viper, Rita Sue and husband Earnest Back of Vicco, Kay and husband Roger Raichel of Sassafras, Carol and husband S.K. George and Ann and husband Barkley Estep, all of Louisville and Darrell Estep and wife Judy of Viper. Her surviving grandchildren are Feller Back, Darlene Kerttula, Bill Back, Tyler and Jordan Estep. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Ashley Back, Eric Back, Whitney Back, Noah Back, Amanda Back, Patrick and Brittan Kerttula. Along with a host of nieces and nephews, she is also survived by a special friend of the family, Mrs. Frankie Combs. Visitation was held on Thursday evening, December 13, at the Vicco Baptist Church where the funeral service was conducted on Friday morning with the Rev. Ron Davidson officiating. An additional service was conducted on Thursday evening after the visitation with the Rev. Glen Noe officiating. The burial was held at the Noble Cemetery at Watts. Pallbearers were Calvin Estep, Wayland Estep, Carol Estep, Feller Back, Kenny Neace and Bill Back.
