It means something like "son of my sorrow" and is often given to sons born posthumously (to their fathers). I come from a line of four Connecticut men called Benoni Plum (after the first who was appropriately named, the others were named after their fathers). Is there a particularly good source for the Brashears of Virginia & Eastern Kentucky that anyone could refer me to? Thanks, Dona Ritchie
