Thanks for posting ones on the children Lynda. I think they have lots to do with genealogy. They often put parents in a certain place and time and provide clues for other family members. Also, they can paint a sad picture of how some families endured hardship of epidemics and loss of one child after another. Leaves me feeling very grateful for the health my family has experienced compared to the misfortunes of our ancestors. Genealogy is more than just collecting dead relatives. It's also telling the story of their lives which we can learn much from. Hi all, again, I have another question regarding DCs. For my William Gabbard, I have loos to be 2 for the same individual. they have different cert numbers, but seem like the exact same person. Reason for death is Food Poison, Searching the KY vital pages, they have bnothe of the DCs but one for 29 yr old and one for u/1. Are they the same person or father and son? Both getting food poison and expiring at the same time: 12:30 pm???? Thanks,Crystal

Hi Gang, Well it looks like "Ole Bloodhound Larry" found another important bit of information about our own Nick&co. (Thats Shanghai Nick Combs's descentants.) Larry started calling our branch of the tree "Nick&co" and it stuck. About two weeks ago Larry called or wrote to the UK Library to see if they could find an articial involving the murder of William "Billy" Combs s/o Shanghai Nick & Eliza Williams Combs. Here's what they sent him. I believe this came out of the Hazard Herald in March 1941. OFFICERS SEEK DEATH CLUE IN LOCAL KILLING W. M. Combs Found Dead Late Saturday Within Short Distance Of Home City police and the sheriff's office continued today their efforts to find some clue in the death of W. M. (Uncle Billie) Combs, who was found dead within a few feet of his home on Baker Avenue late Staurday night. Employed as a nightwatchman by several Hazard merchants, Combs was found at 11:40 P.M. Saturday on the sidewalk at the upper end of the Baker St. bridge by Dudley Goodlette, local businessman, who notified police. A coroners jury returned a verdict of death at the hands of a person or persons unknown. A crushed skull from two blows caused his death while an absence of any other bruised spots evidently eliminated the possibility of his haveing been hit be a car. Three dollar bills and a small amount of change was found in his pockets and scattered on the sidewalk by his body. A borrowed pistol and holster which Combs was known to have been carrying at 8:00 P.M. Saturday night was missing and police today were seeking to find the owner of the pistol. Combs at first was thought to have fallen from a three foot wall against which his feet were lying when he was found, but police discounted that possibility today. Chief D. Y. Wooton said he usually collected from merchants on Saturday nights for his nightwatchman duties. Combs, a former constable, elected in 1929, was a native of Perry county, having been raised near Ary on Troublesome Creek. He is survived by two sons, Matt of Hazard, and Carl of Middletown, Ohio, three daughters, Mrs. Charles Mantz of Middletown O., Mrs Fletcher Davis of Gadsden, Mrs Fletcher Davis of Yadsen, Alabama(not my error) and Mrs Omer Petty of Blue Diamond; and two brothers, Jerry of Clark County and Jim of Dwarf. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Baptist Church sy Ary and burial will be in the Holliday Cemetery on Troublesome. *********************************************************** Thanks, Larry, ya done good! I wished we could find his kids and grandchildren. Lynda
