Author: eltonbingham Surnames: Witt, Pennington Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.perry/5306/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for anyone that could provide any additional information about Lillie Witt of Leslie County, KY. Here is what I know: Born about 1873 to 1877, based on records found to date. Married Mary Belle Johnson about 1899. Died 8 Apr 1949 in Perry County, KY Children include: Charles (b. 1901, d. 1928) Fred (b. 1903) Laura (b. 1907) David (b. 1909) Susie (b. 1912) Mary "Mollie" (b. 1914) Ollie (b. 1916, d. 1917) Floyd (b. 1920) Homer (b. 1925) Lillie enlisted in the US Army in 1898. He is found in census records in Leslie, KY in 1900 and Perry, KY 1910 thru 1930. He died in 1949 in Perry, KY and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Hazard, Perry Co, KY. On his death certificate his parents are listed as John Witt and Nancy Pennington, the informant was his son Floyd. His obituary does not list any information regarding his parents and siblings. Here is the problem. Lillie was born about 3-6 years prior to the marriage of John Witt and Nancy Pennington and he is not listed in their home in the 1880 census. However, in the 1880 census in the home of John Witt and Nancy Pennington is listed a step son, Henry L. C. Pennington, age 7. No other records have been located on this Henry L. C. Pennington other than a photo taken of him and John Andrew Witt, both young teenagers and Henry is listed as "ell Pennington" on the back of the photo. Some descendants of John Witt believe that Henry L. C. Pennington and Lillie Witt are the same person, that at some point in his life, Henry L. C. Pennington started using the surname of his step father, John Witt, however, no documents or other information have been located that support this idea. I would like to hear from anyone with connections to this family or others with details that would clear up any information about Lillie Witt. Thank you. I noticed that on one e-mail it mentioned the Letcher Co. Census annotated by Wilma Parker Johnson. Well, a little of it was annotated by me, but most of it was annotated by other members of the Letcher Co. Historical Society. I did the typing and gave it to them to sell. I didn't want to be bothered with all the problems that come with selling the books. LOL But, the other members would send me different families and I added the info they sent to the census. -----Original Message----- From: kyperry-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kyperry-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of LyndaCGKyCol@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, April 05, 2011 6:19 PM To: kyperry@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYPERRY] Moses and Catherine Watts Maggard Ken, I had this one correctly listed..........I'm smiling!!
