Our common ancestor was Andrew Howard (1782-1834), who was John Howard's father. My branch comes through Andrew B. Howard, who was Andrew's youngest child. It has been suggested that John was one of the two sons born to Andrew Howard through his first wife, said to be Sarah Metcalf (Her name seems to be a tradition and I have not been able to find out the origin of the tradition). Recently, Andrew Howard's last will and testament was found naming all of his surviving children, including a John Howard. Anyway I will send you what I have with some discussion as well.

The Feltner book has Adam listed as Feltner. Orlena Feltner was born 11 Sep 1852 and they had one more child, unnamed. The book doesn't have Orlena died in childbirth, but she died before Feb 1856. Rosannah is my great grandmother and Garrett Feltner is my grandfather, born Jan 1863, not 1861 as he is listed in the 1870 census for Perry County, Ky. He was 7 years old in 1870. It's believed Rosannah died when grandpa was 3 years old, because he married Lucinda Baker in Oct 1866 and there's no divorce record for Adam and Rosannah Feltner, The Feltner name has different ways of spelling it, it started as Voelckner in Germany and was changed to Felkner, Felknor, and Feltner in this country, some within the same family. Some of the children spelled it one way and other ones spelled it another way. It may be confusing, but it's the same family. I have seen our Howard family name spelled different ways also. John F. Howard and Jane Jackson is the parents of Julia and Rosannah. gene@trip.net

Given that Julia's daughter, Orlena, was born in 1855, and Rosannah's marriage to her brother-in-law was early in 1856, it would seem that Julia may have died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. It would also seem that Adam and Rosannah's marriage was of the shot gun variety. It is amazing how names change. It seems to me the root of Felkner/Feltner is probably Faulkner, and the name was changed through regional dialect and illiteracy. I prefer to use the name that was consistantly used at the time. For Adam, that would be Felkner. For his descendants it has become Feltner. I saw it spelled three different ways in the same census in the same county. I have seen Howard written as Hord and Hoard. Some of my cousins from Kentucky and Tennessee pronounce Howard as Haired. Thank God it was more often than not written down as Howard. Thanks again.

    3. I received this message through the YOUNG family web-site and want to warn others about it so you can block it from your mailings. As you can tell it does not pertain to genealogy and is a hoax, but I am afraid some elderly person might send this nut money. Sharon Jebavy Young is the YOUNG'S page owner and she was glad this was brought to her attention & now it can be blocked. I know this is off the path of genealogy but I would rather not see this type of e-mail sent to me. I guess this guy is hitting on all the genealogy web sites, so beware and get ready to hit the delete button. Plus some of the lettering at the end of his message is strange to me which makes me uncomfortable. Sherry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ruben Scot" <rubenscot@sanook.com> To: <YOUNG-KY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 02, 2004 8:47 PM Subject: Help Dear Sir/madam , With a very desperate need for assistance, I have summed up courage to contact you. I am from northern Swaziland, presently working in Iraq with an international organisation that I will disclose to you later, I found your contact particulars in an address journal. I am seeking your assistance to evacuate the sum of (Sixteen million, five hundred thousand dollars) to your country or any other safe country of your choice, in as much as you can give me a guarantee that my own share will be safe in your care untill I complete my service here, this is no stolen money, and there are no dangers involved. SOURCE OF MONEY: Some money in various currencies was discovered in barrels with piles of weapons and ammunitions at a location near one of Saddam,s old palaces during a rescue operation, and it was agreed by all party present that the money be shared amongst us, this was quite an illegal thing to do, but I tell you what? no compensation can make up for the risks we have taken with our lives in this hell hole. The above figure was given to me as my share, and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a German contact, I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot. I have now found a secured way of getting the package out to Europe for you to pick up, and will discuss this with you when I am sure of your sincerity in this, One passionate appeal I will make to you is not to discuss this matter with a third party, incase you have reasons to reject this offer, please destroy this mail as any leakage of this information will be too bad for us. I do not know for how long we will remain here, and I have survived two suicide bomb attacks by the special grace of God, this and other reasons I will mention later has prompted me to reach out for help, I honestly want this matter to be resolved immediately. His wife died and he remarried. The second wife supposedly killed him & went to prison for the crime. This would have happened perhaps in the 1920- 1930 time period. These three children grew up in an orphanage in North Carolina. The son, Billy, is my uncle and has no idea where his parents are even buried. Can anyone help?
