Lonnie Combs Lonnie Combs, 64, of Madison, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Kindred South Hospital in Greenwood. He was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Lockport, Ky., the son of Ernest and Molly Wooten Combs. He was raised and attended school in Henry County, Ky. He was employed early in life as a farm laborer and later worked for Electro Wire, Anaconda and Union Camp for many years. He was a lifetime member of the United Steel Workers of America and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, building and racing stock cars. He is survived by one daughter, Jamie Cooper of Eminence, Ky.; one son, Michael Combs of Madison; his former wife, Elizabeth Hendren Combs of Madison, whom he married June 29, 1967; two brothers, Jim Combs of Sligo, Ky. and Ira Combs of Defoe, Ky.; one sister, Jean Mertz of Oldham County, Ky.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Lyons and Ailene Frazier; and two brothers, Don Combs and Roy Combs. The funeral will be private at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery in Point Pleasant, Ky. There is no public service or visitation scheduled. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Lonnie Combs Memorial Fund. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
July 13, 2011 Irene Combs McIntyre The Tribune Star TERRE HAUTE - Irene Combs McIntyre passed away quietly on Monday, July 11, 2011, at her residence in Cobblestone Crossings. Mrs. McIntyre was born in Viper, Ky., on March 22, 1918. She was educated at Pine Mountain Settlement School and Union College. In 1939, she wed Richard McIntyre, to whom she was married for 70 years, until his death in 2009. She was active in volunteer war efforts during World War II. In 1949, the family relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska, where Mr. McIntyre made a career as a bush pilot and sporting goods dealer. Mrs. McIntyre was active in Fairbanks raising her children, working as a hospital volunteer and supporting endless civic and social causes. In recognition of her contributions to building the state, she was honored with acceptance into the Pioneers of Alaska, an organization designed to honor outstanding citizens of the territorial/early statehood era. Following her husband's death in 2009, Mrs. McIntyre left Alaska to live near her younger son, John, in Terre Haute. Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her son, Edward, of Fairbanks, and John (Patricia), of Terre Haute; granddaughter, Ariel, of Washington, DC; and extended family in Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and son, Robert David. Final arrangements are pending in Kentucky assisted locally by Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home. Gussie Louise Ayres Combs (1940 - 2011) Gussie Louise Ayres Combs, age 71, of Morning View, died Monday, September 19, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood. She was a former Housekeeping Manager for Why Motel and a member of Morning View United Methodist Church. Mrs. Combs loved crocheting, playing bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her parents, Cecil B. and Jessie Ayres Conway; twin infants, Darrell and Gerald Combs; brother, Ronald Ayres; and sister, Mary Gleason all preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Hensley Combs, Sr.; sons, Hensley Combs, Jr. of Kenton, Daniel (Rose) Lee Combs and James Arthur Combs, both of Morning View; brother, Jim Conway of Covington; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and beloved aunt, Mrs. Anna Wright. Gorman, who lived at Wesley Village in Wilmore, Ky., went to be with the Lord on October 25. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and was born on May 1, 1925 in Rogersville, Tn. After her marriage, she lived in Hazard where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was a member of the church choir. She was also involved in the women's work of the church, and was a troop leader of the Brownie Scouts for several years. After moving to Lexington 23 years ago, she was an active member of the Tates Creek Presbyterian Church and the church choir. She attended Brenau College in Gainsville, Ga. where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of the Lexington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Griffin Gate Garden Club, where she served on the board for 16 years. She also served on the board of the Griffin Gate Community Association. Surviving her is her loving family: one son, Bill Gorman and his wife Missy of Hazard and Lexington; daughter Suzanne Gorman of Yalaha, Florida; granddaughters Casey Gorman Bowers and Haley Gorman Clark and husband James, both of Lexington, and great-granddaughters Alexandra Clark and Catherine Clark. A family graveside service was held in Rogersville on Saturday, October 29. Memorials suggested to Wesley Village Senior Living Community in Wilmore, or Tates Greek Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
